ECO3 Enters Digital Label Press Market with Three-Platform ELIO Portfolio

ECO3 has launched ELIO, marking the company’s entry into digital label printing and extending its established expertise in prepress, workflow automation and colour management into production hardware. Rather than positioning the portfolio primarily around maximum press specifications, ECO3 says ELIO was developed around the economics and production requirements of converters facing shorter runs, rising SKU counts, personalisation and tighter turnaround expectations. The company is presenting ELIO as an integrated production ecosystem combining press hardware, ELIO inks, APOGEE Digital workflow software and pre- and post-sales support.

The portfolio begins with the 330 mm ELIO Essenza, which runs at speeds up to 50 metres per minute and offers resolution up to 600 by 1200 dpi. Six colour channels allow CMYK to be combined with white, while optional inline primer, lamination and die-cutting modules extend the configuration. ELIO Forma moves further up the productivity range with speeds up to 80 metres per minute and native 1200 by 1200 dpi resolution. It supports CMYK plus orange, green, violet and white with LED curing, giving converters extended-gamut options for applications requiring a broader colour range, such as brand-matched packaging and vivid promotional labels.

The third configuration, ELIO Hybrid, integrates UV inkjet with conventional flexographic printing in a customised production platform. By pairing digital flexibility with proven flexo efficiency, the hybrid model lets converters route each job to the most economical process, a division of labour that has become the defining logic of modern label production. All three configurations use Kyocera technology for the inkjet imaging system, anchoring the portfolio on a mature, high-reliability printhead platform.

The launch is significant because ECO3 enters digital labels with an established workflow, colour and service infrastructure rather than approaching the market solely as a press manufacturer. That context matters: many converters have been burned by standalone hardware that struggles to fit into the wider production environment. By bundling APOGEE Digital workflow and colour management, ECO3 is selling a path to profitable short-run label production, not just a machine.

Christian Tebroke, CEO of ECO3, said the objective is to provide converters with the capabilities needed to operate efficiently and achieve profitable growth without adding technology simply for higher specifications. It is a pointed contrast with a market that has sometimes equated progress with ever-larger dpi counts and speed figures. For the typical converter, the binding constraints are run length, versioning and turnaround, not peak throughput, and ELIO’s configuration ladder reflects that reality.

Commercialisation will run through ECO3’s established sales and service organisation across Europe and the Americas, with the complete portfolio available in phases. Leveraging an existing support network is a genuine advantage in a segment where commissioning, training and rapid service calls determine whether a press becomes a profit centre or a stranded asset. Buyers are increasingly weighting vendor stability and local presence as heavily as the hardware itself.

For the digital label press market, ECO3’s arrival adds a credible workflow-led challenger to a field already crowded with specialised press builders. The differentiator is likely to be integration: converters who already run APOGEE prepress and value a single accountable supplier may find ELIO an easier decision than a mixed best-of-breed stack. As label demand continues to fragment into shorter, personalised and regulated runs, the vendors that wrap hardware in usable workflow and support will capture the converters who cannot afford to become inkjet experts overnight.

ELIO therefore represents both a product launch and a strategic statement: that the future of digital labels belongs to ecosystem suppliers who can make the whole production chain coherent, not just to those who build the fastest box.
