Ink2Heart Builds Drinkware Personalisation Business on Inkcups X5-T Printer

Ink2Heart, a Saxony, Germany based start-up founded in 2025, has invested in an X5-T High Throw direct-to-object flatbed inkjet printer from Inkcups to offer on-demand personalisation of thermal drinkware and to set the business up for future growth into other applications. The purchase is the company’s first equipment investment and reflects a deliberate strategy to make product personalisation economically viable for both consumers and B2B customers.

Founder and Managing Director Richard Müller brings 20 years of print industry experience to the venture. Rather than follow traditional manufacturing, he wanted digital print to enable a different approach, one built around small runs, individual pieces and varied products without the overhead of conventional setup. That thinking led him to explore direct-to-object printing, where the ability to change content from one product to the next transforms the economics of customisation.

Müller frames the advantage in practical terms. With traditional processes, setup times, tooling and other steps can make very small runs economically challenging. With digital direct-to-object printing, a customer might order 100 bottles and every bottle can carry a different name. For Ink2Heart, that is not 100 complicated individual jobs; it is one digital production order containing 100 individual products.

The X5-T High Throw followed months of research into direct-to-object technology, evaluating print quality, flexibility, productivity and the range of printable objects. The deciding factor was fit with the business model: small runs, individual pieces, different products and professional print quality. Just as important as the hardware was the partnership. Müller did not simply want to buy a machine; he wanted a manufacturer that took service and support seriously and would help with installation, commissioning and getting production running.

That support proved instrumental. As a start-up, an investment of this kind carries risk, and Müller credits the trust between the two companies, plus the speed with which Inkcups moved him into actual production, with confirming the decision. He recalls the special moment when the machine immediately started generating revenue for the company.

Ink2Heart’s main focus is personalised stainless-steel thermal drinkware, including bottles, tumblers, thermal mugs and shakers, for private customers, companies, clubs, coaches and events. Applications range from a simple name or logo to more complex designs with multiple elements. Across all of them, the X5-T’s ability to print high-quality graphics with up to a 25 percent wrap on curved or uneven surfaces is fundamental. The machine has already handled unexpected items too, such as a power drill, underscoring the flexibility Müller wanted.

Individualisation, in his words, is just regular production. A product with an individual name is as much a standard order as a larger B2B run, which he calls one of the machine’s greatest advantages. That mindset lets Ink2Heart personalise a single tumbler and then move straight to an order of several hundred, each with a different design.

Flexibility also underpins the company’s sustainability stance. Müller argues that sustainability starts with what and how much is produced; because the model personalises to order, there is no need to manufacture large quantities for stock. The company does not claim digital printing is automatically sustainable, but it acknowledges the technology enables a model that can reduce overproduction and unnecessary inventory.

Direct-to-object printing is central to Ink2Heart’s goal of becoming a leading provider of on-demand personalised products in Germany, and Müller stresses this investment is only the start. The X5-T High Throw, he says, was an important building block that made the entire business model implementable, combining the flexibility of individual personalisation with the quality and efficiency of professional industrial production.
