Horizon Names Dataform as Dealer Partner to Grow Austrian Finishing Market

Horizon GmbH has established a dealer partnership with Dataform Paper Processing GmbH to expand its presence in Austria, a move that connects equipment sales with a working demonstration environment for prospective buyers. Effective immediately, Dataform will sell the entire Horizon portfolio in close coordination with Horizon key account manager Thomas Kunst, with the stated aim of strengthening market coverage and supporting customers investing in print finishing capabilities.

The Dataform Group brings more than 50 years of experience across print production, self-publishing and machinery sales through its Media, Buchschmiede and Paper Processing businesses. Importantly, Dataform is also a long-standing Horizon customer, which gives it practical, hands-on experience with the very equipment it will now represent. That production background adds a credibility that pure resellers often lack, because the people demonstrating the machines have already run them in real jobs.

At Dataform’s site in Großebersdorf, near Vienna, customers can see selected Horizon solutions running in an active production environment. Rather than a static showroom, the arrangement lets visitors assess performance and output quality under real operating conditions. For print businesses weighing a significant capital outlay, the ability to watch a folder, binder or cutter handle live work before committing is a meaningful de-risking factor.

Ambjörn Breuer, director of sales and marketing at Horizon GmbH, highlighted Dataform’s firsthand experience with Horizon technology, its understanding of the Austrian market and its established network as the reasons behind the partnership. He said the two companies intend to help customers make their processes more efficient and take greater advantage of automation and connectivity, placing workflow improvement at the centre of the collaboration.

That workflow focus matters because finishing is increasingly where print profitability is decided. Presses have become fast and reliable, but a bottleneck at the folding, binding or cutting stage can erase the productivity gained upstream. By pairing local market knowledge with a live demonstration site, Horizon and Dataform are positioning finishing not as a separate afterthought but as an integrated link in a connected production chain.

For Austrian print service providers, the partnership also shortens the distance between a question and an answer. A local dealer can respond quickly to service needs, host training and advise on configuration for specific job mixes. In a market where many shops run lean and cannot afford extended downtime, that proximity is a competitive advantage in itself.

The deal reflects a wider pattern among finishing equipment makers, who are leaning on regional partners to extend reach without diluting technical expertise. Horizon’s choice of a partner that already uses its machines suggests the company values demonstrated competence over simple distribution footprint. Customers, in turn, get a supplier who can speak from experience rather than from a brochure.

As print volumes shift toward shorter runs, versioned campaigns and faster turnarounds, the finishing floor is under pressure to be both flexible and automated. Horizon’s portfolio, spanning folders, bookbinders, creasers and connectivity software, is well suited to that environment, and Dataform’s production heritage means it can show how those tools behave under daily load.

The partnership is therefore a practical bet on the Austrian market: that local, experience-backed representation will convert more finishing investments than a remote sales model could. For Horizon, it extends a proven product line into the hands of a partner who already trusts it; for Dataform, it formalises a relationship that began as a customer relationship and grew into a channel. The net effect should be tighter support and better-informed buying decisions for Austrian printers exploring automation.
