EFI and Agfa’s DPS business to combine into a global full-service industrial inkjet company

Electronics for Imaging and Agfa-Gevaert have announced a definitive agreement to combine Agfa’s Digital Printing Solutions business with EFI. Under the deal, an affiliate of Siris, EFI’s owner, will hold a 60% interest while Agfa retains 40%, with the two acting as equal partners in governance. The transaction builds on a global partnership the companies established in 2024 that already gave each access to the other’s complementary technologies, and it is expected to close by the end of 2026 subject to consultation, regulatory approval and customary conditions.

The logic is scale and breadth. EFI brings global leadership in industrial inkjet with particular strength in digital single-pass systems for corrugated packaging, roll-to-roll, hybrid and textile printers through its Nozomi, VUTEK and Reggiani platforms. Agfa DPS is a leading provider of industrial inkjet solutions with distinct strengths in display graphics, décor and packaging, anchored by its recently renewed Jeti TAURO, Onset PANTHERA and SpeedSet ORCA platforms. Together the combined company expects to generate roughly 540 million euros, about 625 million US dollars, of revenue in 2026 on a pro forma basis, serving thousands of customers across more than 100 countries with complementary North American and European footprints.

Siris and Agfa both framed the move as acceleration rather than retreat. Agfa’s statement noted that rather than continue as a standalone business, it chose to partner with Siris to unlock the next phase of growth for DPS while preserving upside for its stakeholders. Siris, which has backed EFI since 2019, said the combination forms a business with the reach and depth to do more for customers across more markets. Vincent Wille, President of Agfa DPS, argued that bringing together technology leadership, global reach and application expertise helps customers achieve higher productivity, agility and sustainable growth, reducing waste and creating value across the print ecosystem.

The strategic rationale reflects a broader consolidation wave in industrial inkjet, where the cost of developing printheads, inks, software and workflow has risen and customers increasingly want a single, globally supported partner. A combined EFI-Agfa DPS would hold one of the widest application portfolios in the sector, spanning corrugated, rigid and flexible signage, textile, décor and packaging, backed by a global service network that shortens the path from development to production. Cross-selling and a larger platform are expected to deliver meaningful synergies over time.

For the wider market, the deal reduces the number of independent industrial inkjet champions while strengthening one scaled challenger to the largest integrated suppliers. Customers should watch for tighter integration of EFI’s workflow and inkjet architecture with Agfa’s print engines, and for an expanded roadmap spanning the fastest-growing segments of the industry. If it clears regulatory review as planned, the combination will rank among the most significant structural moves in industrial printing this year, reshaping competitive dynamics well beyond the two founding companies.

Consolidation of this scale rarely happens in a vacuum. Industrial inkjet has matured from a collection of specialist niches into a set of platforms expensive enough to develop that only a handful of suppliers can fund world-class printheads, inks, software and service simultaneously. By combining, EFI and Agfa DPS pool those investments and widen the application coverage any single customer can buy into, from corrugated and textile to display graphics, décor and packaging. The risk, familiar from past print-industry mergers, is integration: blending sales organisations, support networks and product roadmaps without disrupting the thousands of existing installations that generate the combined revenue. Customers will be watching for continuity of supply and for whether the promised cross-selling translates into genuinely better solutions or merely into reorganisation. If the deal clears as planned, it will likely prompt competitors to seek their own scale or specialisation, accelerating a structural shift toward fewer, larger, full-service industrial inkjet groups.

The practical test will be execution. Merging two established industrial-inkjet organisations means reconciling overlapping product lines, such as EFI’s Nozomi and Agfa’s Onset or Jeti Tauro ranges in display graphics, without confusing customers or starving any platform of investment. Support networks in North America and Europe must be unified so that a corrugated converter in one region and a décor printer in another receive consistent service, and the promised pro forma revenue of around 540 million euros will only hold if existing installations keep running and renewing. Employees, too, are a factor: the deal is subject to consultation and cultural integration, and retaining the application and service talent that gives both companies their edge is as important as the balance sheet. If Siris and Agfa manage those risks, the combined group becomes a formidable, full-spectrum industrial inkjet champion; if not, customers could gravitate to more focused specialists who offer simpler, deeper support in a single application.

For customers, the near-term priority is continuity. Thousands of installations running EFI Nozomi, VUTEK and Reggiani systems, and Agfa Jeti, Onset and SpeedSet platforms, depend on steady supplies of printheads, inks, parts and application support, and any disruption during integration would be costly. The combined group’s stated intention to act as equal partners under Siris and Agfa governance is meant to reassure on that front, but the proof will be in renewal cycles and roadmap clarity over the next year. A successful merger would also reset competitive dynamics, pressuring pure-play rivals to seek scale or deepen focus, and giving print buyers a single, globally supported partner for an unusually broad set of industrial inkjet applications from corrugated and textile to display graphics and packaging.
