Konica Minolta Launches JETvarnish 3D Web 400 Digital Embellishment Press for Labels

Konica Minolta has launched the JETvarnish 3D Web 400, a roll-to-roll digital embellishment press for the label market built on MGI Digital Technology’s latest platform. The machine brings spot UV varnish and hot foil stamping into a fully digital, single-pass process, targeting label converters that want high-value decoration without the makeready and tooling of conventional methods.

Six Configurations, One Platform

The Web 400 is available in six configurations. Depending on the setup, it can include a hot foil unit, an inline semi-rotary die-cutting unit and one or two print engines. A standard spot UV varnish in the first print unit can be paired with a special varnish in the second, enabling single-pass UV varnishing and hot foil stamping with no analog steps. That flexibility lets converters match the configuration to their actual volume and application mix rather than overbuying capacity.

Speed and Substrate Range

The press reaches speeds up to 42 meters per minute on roll widths from 200 mm up to 350 mm, with an option to extend to 420 mm. That bandwidth covers a broad range of label formats, and the digital process works across offset, flexo, toner or inkjet printing, handling short, medium and long runs alike. Because there is no plate or screen to prepare, versioning and seasonal designs become practical even at modest quantities.

Why Digital Embellishment Is Gaining Ground

Brand owners keep asking for differentiation on shelf, and embellishment — texture, gloss, foil — is one of the most effective ways to achieve it. Traditional foil stamping and screen varnish demand cylinders, screens and makeready that penalize short runs. A 100% digital workflow removes those constraints, letting converters quote premium finishes on versions and runs that would never justify tooling. For label printers, the Web 400 also shortens the path from design to shelf, with variable embellishment and personalization feasible without re-tooling.

Positioning in the Market

Konica Minolta’s move deepens its presence in the label embellishment segment, an area where MGI’s technology has already built a reputation. By packaging it under the Konica Minolta banner with multiple configurations, the company gives converters a scalable entry point and a clear upgrade path as volumes grow. As competition intensifies in label printing, the ability to sell finished, shelf-ready labels with integrated embellishment — rather than subcontracting the effect — protects margin and lead time. The Web 400 is therefore both a productivity tool and a route to higher-value work for converters ready to move up the value chain.
