Avantika 2.0: Indian Commercial Printer Enters Labels with Epson SurePress L-6534VW

Diversification stories in printing usually start with a market map. The one unfolding at Avantika Printers started with a next-generation observation: labels were growing, digital label technology was maturing, and the company’s commercial printing credentials were an asset the label segment had not yet seen. The result, formalised at LOUPE India 2026, is an investment in Epson’s SurePress L-6534VW digital label press – and a company rebranding its own future as “Avantika 2.0.”

A strategic shift, formalised at LOUPE

The partnership between Avantika Printers and Epson was announced at LOUPE India 2026, with the SurePress L-6534VW scheduled for installation at the company’s Greater Noida facility. The move takes Avantika beyond its commercial printing base into the label segment, opening a new business line while building on capabilities the company has spent years refining. Himanshu Pandey, who is spearheading the diversification, frames labels as the natural next arena for a printer of Avantika’s pedigree – a segment where digital technology is creating scope for differentiated applications and specialty finishes that conventional label production struggles to serve economically. The “Avantika 2.0” label carries meaning beyond marketing. Himanshu has said the company intends to bring the same commitment and customer focus to the Epson partnership that shaped its journey in commercial printing – transferring a service culture, not just buying a machine.

Generational leadership in motion

For founder MN Pandey, the investment represents something larger: a new direction driven by the next generation of leadership. He acknowledged that entering the packaging market was never part of the company’s original business plans. It was Himanshu who identified the potential in labels and proposed the expansion. “Avantika 2.0 is Himanshu’s vision. He recognized the opportunity and proposed entering this market. We have backed his decision, and he will lead the business forward in partnership with Epson,” MN Pandey said. That framing – founder endorsement, next-generation execution – is a familiar and telling pattern across family-owned Indian print businesses, where succession increasingly arrives as market expansion rather than simple continuity.

What the SurePress L-6534VW brings

The machine at the centre of the strategy is Epson’s SurePress L-6534VW, an LED UV inkjet digital label press powered by Epson’s PrecisionCore linehead technology. It runs at production speeds of up to 50 metres per minute and offers white ink and digital varnish capabilities – the combination that makes premium label work possible on a digital platform. Finishing options include gloss, matte and spot effects, giving converters scope to produce labels with varied visual and tactile characteristics. Digital varnish in particular allows spot highlights and textures to be built into the same pass as the print job, removing a separate offline step that short-run premium labels otherwise struggle to justify. For Avantika, the press is explicitly more than an equipment addition. The company positions it as the entry point into a new market – the beginning of an expansion under Himanshu’s leadership that will extend the reputation built in commercial printing into labels, with Epson as technology partner.

Epson’s welcome

Ashish Joshi of Epson India welcomed the company into the SurePress community and flagged the collaborative intent behind the relationship: “We are pleased to welcome Avantika Printers to the SurePress L-6534VW customer community. We look forward to working closely with the team to advance print capabilities, particularly in specialty printing. While the label market is highly competitive, we believe Avantika’s experience and capabilities will help bring a fresh perspective to this segment.” The note about competition is candid – India’s label market is one of the fastest-growing in the world and among its most crowded, with established converters investing heavily in digital capacity. Avantika’s bet is that a newcomer with deep commercial print discipline, modern equipment and a clear specialty-finish focus can carve out differentiated volume rather than competing on commodity price.

The wider context

The announcement lands at a moment when India’s label and packaging segment is being reshaped by exactly the forces Avantika is riding: brand demand for shorter runs, versioning for regional markets, premium finishes on smaller SKUs, and the steady migration of work from flexo to digital where run lengths permit. LOUPE India 2026, where the partnership was unveiled, has become the showplace for precisely this transition, with digital label equipment dominating exhibitor floors. For Avantika Printers, the road from commercial print to labels begins with one press in Greater Noida – but the company’s framing of the move as “2.0” suggests the ambition runs well beyond a first installation.

Why labels, why now

The timing reflects India’s label market dynamics. The country’s label consumption continues to grow well above global averages, driven by FMCG proliferation, e-commerce packaging and regulatory labelling requirements, while the digital share of that volume remains far below Western levels – leaving substantial headroom for converters entering with modern equipment. The SurePress platform’s LED UV curing also carries an operational argument in Indian conditions: lower energy consumption and reduced consumable waste compared with conventional UV systems, which matters when competing in a price-sensitive market. Avantika’s commercial print background adds a further asset – prepress discipline and customer-service depth that many first-generation label converters took years to build.
