Vert Opens Colorado Facility That Puts Pouches, Roll Stock and Labels Under One Roof

A new digitally enabled packaging plant in Longmont, Colorado, is betting that the future of consumer packaged goods (CPG) belongs to brands that can launch fast, change artwork on demand, and scale without rebuilding their supply chain. Vert has launched the facility powered by HP Indigo digital print technology, bringing stand-up pouch, roll stock, and label production together under one roof for food, beverage, supplement, pet, and lifestyle CPG brands.

The Longmont operation produces stand-up pouches, roll stock, labels, stick packs, sachets, folding cartons, child-resistant certified packaging, and other custom formats. Its explicit target is brands that need short runs, rapid artwork changes, and faster replenishment cycles alongside larger-volume programs. Vert says the plant was designed to stretch digital printing’s advantages beyond traditional short-run work into medium and longer-run production.

That hybrid ambition sits at the center of Vert’s model. The facility anchors a manufacturing approach that combines domestic digital production with a global manufacturing network, letting brands choose where volume or economics favor conventional production. It is a deliberate answer to a packaging supply chain that, in Vert’s view, was built around predictability and volume rather than speed and flexibility.

“This used to be a world of long, stable runs,” said Dustin Steerman, founder and CEO of Vert. “CPG today increasingly demands speed, flexibility, and the ability to respond as products and forecasts change. Brands should be able to launch quickly, adapt production as demand evolves, and scale without rebuilding their packaging supply chain every step of the way.” The comment captures a wider shift: packaging is no longer a static line item but a responsive, near-real-time function tied to demand signals.

Vert developed its operating model serving regulated cannabis markets before expanding into the broader lifestyle CPG segment. That origin matters. Cannabis packaging demands child-resistance certification, tight regulatory documentation, and frequent SKU churn, a discipline that transfers neatly to supplements, beverages, and pet products where compliance and variation are also high. Converging pouches, roll stock, and labels in one plant lets a brand manage those formats as a single, coordinated program instead of three separate vendor relationships.

The strategic logic is compelling for small and mid-sized brands. Traditional packaging supply chains punish change: new artwork means new plates or cylinders, new tooling, and long lead times. Digital production removes much of that friction, letting a brand test a flavor, a region, or a promotion with a small run and then scale the winner. ForVert, the Longmont plant is the physical expression of that promise, pairing HP Indigo’s variable-data and short-run strengths with the operational maturity of a multi-site network.

The move also reflects where investment is flowing in packaging. As e-commerce and direct-to-consumer growth flatten the old economies of scale, capacity that can switch quickly between formats and volumes commands a premium. Vert’s bet is that co-locating pouches, roll stock, and labels, backed by digital print, will win the brands for whom time-to-shelf is the real constraint.

For converters and label printers watching the CPG landscape, the lesson is familiar but sharper: the winners will be those who treat packaging as a flexible, data-driven service rather than a fixed manufacturing job. Vert’s Colorado facility is one more sign that digital packaging has moved from niche short-run curiosity to a core way brands manage speed, compliance, and growth.
