Electronics For Imaging, Inc. (EFI) used PRINTING United Expo 2026 — held 23 to 25 September in Las Vegas, with EFI in booth C2115 — to showcase a wave of sign-and-display graphics innovations and workflow-automation tools designed to increase the versatility and profitability of its production-level digital inkjet portfolio. The company said the introductions help print providers do more with less while unlocking new revenue opportunities and environmental gains.
“PRINTING United Expo is one of the most important opportunities each year to connect directly with the customers, partners and industry leaders shaping the future of print,” said Frank Pennisi, EFI’s CEO. He highlighted the debut of two systems to U.S. audiences: the EFI VUTEk M3h X and the EFI VUTEk FabriVU 340 i8, both launched earlier in the year and built for high-volume, high-quality, automated production.
The EFI VUTEk M3h X is a true hybrid flatbed and roll-fed LED printer that delivers premium image quality at production-level speeds. It enables new applications and revenue streams with advanced capabilities including white ink, optional clear ink and multilayer printing up to nine layers. The EFI VUTEk FabriVU 340 i8 is a dye-sublimation printer with inline fixation making its North American debut; its eight-colour configuration — CMYK plus orange, blue and a choice of two light inks — expands the printable gamut well beyond four-colour for challenging Pantone and brand colours.
The EFI VUTEk X5r is a 5.2-metre roll-to-roll LED printer built for high-volume indoor and outdoor work. It features workflow automation to reduce operator intervention, including automatic Y-slitters for inline trimming and InSpec AI, described as an industry-first AI-powered image-quality-control system that continuously scans printed output during production to identify defects, support real-time correction and reduce waste and reprints. The EFI VUTEk Q3h XP is a high-performance hybrid LED printer in a new seven-colour configuration with light cyan, light magenta and light black for expanded gamut and smooth pastels.
EFInsight, EFI’s cloud-based platform for multi-pass printers, originally introduced for the Nozomi single-pass press, is now available for select EFI multi-pass platforms, bringing printer and production information together for visibility into utilisation and improvement opportunities. Visitors could also explore an interactive kiosk and an applications gallery spanning packaging, sign-and-display and textile portfolios.
Several EFI partners featured the technology too: the 65-inch EFI Pro 16h+ ran in the LexJet booth, while Nazdar SourceOne ran the 3.2-metre EFI Pro 30h+ in its booth, demonstrating throughput up to 2,530 square feet per hour with white and multilayer printing for high-margin applications. The textile story included samples from the new EFI Reggiani ecoDenim solution and pieces produced on the Nozomi single-pass press.
For wide-format providers, the throughline is automation that removes labour and waste from the production floor. AI-based inspection such as InSpec represents a notable shift: quality control moves from after-the-fact sampling to continuous, in-line verification, directly protecting margin on long, unattended runs.

InSpec AI is the headline signal for where wide-format is headed. Continuous, in-line defect detection turns quality control from a manual sampling step into an automated, real-time process that protects long unattended runs — exactly the kind of feature that justifies premium pricing and wins high-value contracts. EFI’s decision to lead with automation rather than raw speed alone reflects a market maturing past spec-sheet competition toward total-cost-of-operation selling. The broader context is that labour, not machine speed, is increasingly the constraint on wide-format profitability; anything that removes operator intervention — automatic slitters, inline fixation, cloud production visibility — directly improves utilisation. EFInsight extending from single-pass Nozomi presses to multi-pass platforms is another telling move: EFI is aggregating performance data across a far larger installed base, which feeds the AI models that make features like InSpec smarter over time. The textile and denim samples, including the Reggiani ecoDenim solution, show EFI pushing its inkjet into sustainability-sensitive segments where water and chemical savings are a selling point. And the partner booths — LexJet and Nazdar SourceOne running EFI Pro printers — demonstrate a channel strategy that extends reach without EFI owning every engagement. For buyers, the throughline is clear: invest in the automation ecosystem, not just the box, because the margin is increasingly made in the software and workflow around the press rather than in the printhead alone.
The labour-constraint thesis underpins most of EFI’s automation choices. As experienced wide-format operators become harder and more expensive to hire, features that remove human intervention — automatic slitters, inline fixation, cloud production visibility and AI inspection — protect throughput regardless of staffing. InSpec AI is the most interesting because it attacks waste, not just labour: by scanning output continuously and correcting in real time, it prevents the long, unattended runs that digital enables from silently producing scrap. That directly protects margin on the high-volume jobs where digital’s economics are won or lost. EFI’s extension of EFInsight from single-pass Nozomi presses to multi-pass platforms is also shrewd, because it aggregates performance data across a much larger installed base and feeds the models that make features like InSpec smarter with scale. The textile and denim samples show EFI pushing inkjet into sustainability-sensitive segments where water and chemical savings sell. And the partner booths running EFI Pro printers demonstrate a channel strategy that extends reach without EFI owning every customer engagement. The throughline for buyers is consistent: invest in the automation ecosystem around the press, because the margin increasingly lives in software and workflow rather than in the printhead alone.
