ECO3 Launches Apogee IQ to Unify the Entire Print Operation

ECO3 is launching a new version of its Apogee automated prepress workflow platform, Apogee IQ, which expands the system into full print-operation integration by connecting business systems, shop-floor equipment and production data inside one environment. The company says the release reflects a commitment to building a future-proof platform for print businesses, and it arrives as ECO3 — formerly Agfa’s Offset Solutions business, including plates and digital workflow — approaches three years as an independent company spun out of Agfa.

According to ECO3, the problem the new platform solves is structural. As print operations have grown more sophisticated, so has the number of systems involved in running them. MIS, ERP, eCommerce, CRM, logistics and workflow platforms increasingly operate alongside prepress tools like ECO3 Apogee, often with limited integration between them. The result, the company argues, is manual data transfer, fragile point-to-point connections and limited visibility into what is actually happening on the production floor.

Apogee IQ is built to bridge that gap around a central integration layer that connects business applications, production systems and automates the flow of information between them. Print businesses gain real-time visibility into order status, production progress and shop-floor activity, supporting a connected, data-driven operation. The platform is built on two connected applications: Apogee IQ Integrate and Apogee IQ Retrieve.

Apogee IQ Integrate connects business applications — including MIS, ERP, eCommerce, CRM and logistics platforms — through a central integration layer, reducing manual data entry and keeping systems synchronised. Apogee IQ Retrieve captures operational data directly from connected production equipment, including presses, CTP systems, digital presses and finishing equipment. Together, ECO3 says, these capabilities let print businesses automate multi-step processes based on events and conditions, automatically route and validate information, and turn data into actionable insights for scheduling, planning and resource allocation.

” We’re moving beyond automating individual workflows to connecting the entire print operation,” said Arnaud Becuwe, head of Software at ECO3. “Apogee IQ gives our customers one connected platform to see what’s happening across their operation and make faster, better-informed decisions.” ECO3 developed the platform in partnership with Bodoni and powers it with Adobe Print Services, with additional partners to be announced.

Apogee IQ will be available in the second quarter of next year for print businesses running ECO3 Apogee or other prepress workflow solutions. The company frames expanding the partner ecosystem as central to the platform’s value: the more systems and vendors connected to Apogee IQ, the more tangible its promise of a connected print operation becomes.

For printers, the strategic implication is clear. Prepress is no longer an island; the highest-value efficiency gains now come from erasing the manual hand-offs between estimating, order management, the press and finishing. A platform that treats the whole operation as one data environment positions progressive converters to compete on speed and reliability rather than on the specifications of any single machine.

Apogee IQ is also a statement of post-Agfa independence. Three years after the spin-out, ECO3 is positioning itself as the integration layer for the whole prepress and production environment rather than just a workflow and plates vendor. That broadens its competitive set to include MIS and workflow specialists, but also makes it harder for competitors to dislodge once a printer standardises on the platform. The Bodoni and Adobe alliances signal an ecosystem play printers should watch. The deeper trend is the convergence of prepress, MIS and shop-floor data into a single operational picture; for years these systems have been stitched together with brittle, point-to-point integrations that break whenever one vendor changes an API. A central integration layer that treats order, job, press and finishing data as one flow is the natural answer, and it shifts the buyer’s question from “which workflow?” to “which platform connects my business?” For ECO3, owning that layer leverages its entrenched Apogee install base while opening recurring software revenue well beyond one-time plate and licence sales. Adobe Print Services as the engine is a notable choice, tying ECO3 to a broadly trusted rendering and colour stack. The availability for non-Apogee prepress environments is the smart inclusive move: it lets ECO3 capture sites it did not previously serve. If the partner ecosystem expands as promised, Apogee IQ could become the default nervous system for mid-size print operations, with ECO3 less a plates company than a print-IT platform.

For printers evaluating the platform, the practical question is integration burden versus payoff. Apogee IQ promises to erase manual data hand-offs between estimating, order management, the press and finishing, which is where most print operations quietly leak time and money. The risk in any integration layer is the implementation effort and the dependency it creates, but ECO3’s decision to support non-Apogee prepress environments and to build on partner stacks like Adobe Print Services lowers the adoption hurdle. The strategic prize for ECO3 is becoming the default nervous system of the print operation: once order, job, press and finishing data flow through one platform, switching costs rise and recurring software revenue compounds. That is a meaningful evolution for a company spun out of Agfa’s offset business, repositioning it from a plates-and-workflow vendor toward a print-IT platform. Competitors in MIS and workflow will feel the pressure, because the integration layer is where the buyer’s attention — and budget — is migrating. The rollout timing, targeted at the second quarter of next year, gives ECO3 a clear window to sign early adopters before the next capital-planning cycle, and the partner ecosystem is the variable most likely to determine whether Apogee IQ becomes standard or merely useful.
