Nine Decades In: Durst Brings the Full P5 Ecosystem to PRINTING United Expo 2026

For ninety years Durst has built its legacy on a simple idea: making good things better. The Italian-German manufacturer will use PRINTING United Expo 2026 to show how far that idea has travelled, staging its P5 printing systems, software and connected production technologies in booth C1614 and extending the story across three additional Durst Group company booths. The message is that Durst’s ecosystem now reaches well beyond the printer itself.

The P5 platform has become synonymous with quality, productivity, reliability and versatility, and at this year’s show it spans everything from an accessible entry-level hybrid to high-speed production beasts. Visitors can trace the family from its original member to the latest additions. The P5 350 CORE makes its North American debut, bringing proven P5 performance to a future-ready, accessible platform designed for both board and roll production, with advanced print quality, intelligent software, upgradeable architecture and automation-ready capabilities.

For high-volume unattended roll-to-roll work, the P5 350 HSR offers an integrated mesh system, XY cutting, optional vertical and horizontal cutting units and more, a fully featured solution built for exceptional quality and efficiency. The P5 350 HS D4, a cornerstone of the platform featured at every PRINTING United since its 2019 launch, returns in its high-speed D4 configuration, supporting a wide range of applications and substrates at speeds up to 930 square metres per hour, around 10,010 square feet per hour. Steve Lynn, executive director of Durst North America, said this is a significant year in the company’s history and that the lineup is a true example of ninety years of technology, ideas and innovation, with the ecosystem going far beyond the printers.

The multi-booth strategy is the interesting part. Durst is encouraging attendees to experience the group’s breadth by visiting not just C1614 but also neighbouring Durst Group operations. Vanguard Digital Printing Systems, in booth C1514, shows flatbed, roll-to-roll and hybrid solutions that complement Durst’s technology and strengthen the group’s range. Open Software Initiative, in booth C934, demonstrates an open, modular software architecture built to extend beyond Durst systems, using standardised APIs and open interfaces to connect machines, automate workflows and integrate third-party software for more data-driven production. Hasler Solutions, in booth C3204, showcases advanced cutting and finishing with automatic material feeding, maximum material utilisation and automatic pick-up, pairing state-of-the-art technology with high-level mechanical engineering.

The wider print market has shifted from buying boxes to buying outcomes, and Durst’s four-booth footprint is an answer to that. A printer weighing a P5 investment is really weighing an entire production model: hardware that talks to software that talks to finishing. Open Software Initiative’s presence matters because few buyers run a single-vendor shop; the ability to plug Durst into existing MIS and third-party tools is often the difference between a sale and a stalled evaluation. Hasler’s finishing and Vanguard’s printers round out a story of capability rather than isolated speed.

That connected story reflects where the print industry is heading. Buyers no longer want a standalone printer; they want a workflow in which hardware, software and finishing speak the same language and feed shared data. Durst’s decision to present the ecosystem across four booths is a bet that print providers will choose partners who can deliver that coherence rather than assemble it themselves from incompatible parts. The Open Software Initiative angle is especially telling: open interfaces signal that Durst wants its technology to sit at the centre of a print provider’s wider software stack, not locked inside a proprietary silo.

The ninety-year milestone also buys Durst credibility in a crowded wide-format field. Buyers remember which vendors survived previous technology cycles, and longevity signals both engineering depth and a service organisation that will still exist when the warranty ends. As the P5 platform extends from an accessible CORE model to the high-volume HSR, Durst is deliberately covering the full buyer spectrum at one show, a strategy that turns an anniversary into a commercial argument about range and endurance.

For attendees, booth C1614 and the surrounding Durst Group stands offer a concentrated look at what ninety years of iteration looks like in today’s production environment, and at the technology, people and ideas shaping what comes next. In a wide-format market increasingly defined by automation, software and ecosystem thinking, Durst’s anniversary showcase is as much a statement of strategy as a celebration of history.

The anniversary also arrives as wide-format buyers grow cautious about total cost of ownership rather than headline speed. A press that runs fast but sits idle during integration, training or finishing bottlenecks delivers less value than a coherent system that keeps material moving. Durst’s group-company layout is a direct response to that concern, presenting automation, software and finishing as part of one purchase decision. For printers planning capital expenditure, the four-booth story reframes the question from ‘which printer’ to ‘which production ecosystem’.
