A B Graphic International has rebranded its Girona-based business, formerly Enprom Solutions, as ABG Girona, a move that does more than change a nameplate. The site is being designated ABG’s global Centre of Excellence for Flexible Packaging, tightening the engineering expertise it has built into the group’s wider identity and giving the company a clear flagship for its expanding FlexPack portfolio.
The rebrand follows ABG’s 2019 acquisition of the Girona business alongside Kocher+Beck. Rather than leave the operation as a semi-autonomous unit, ABG is now folding its specialist knowledge more deliberately into the parent brand. ABG Girona designs and manufactures non-stop equipment, converting systems, sleeve solutions and automated lines for the flexible packaging and label industries, and develops bespoke systems intended to lift productivity, efficiency and automation. As the Centre of Excellence, it takes a strategic role in developing ABG’s flexible packaging range with the backing of the group’s global sales, service, manufacturing and product-development resources.
Enprom’s heritage matters here. The Spanish engineering team built its reputation on non-stop, automated converting lines, equipment designed to keep production moving through roll changes and job switches without the lengthy stops that eat into converter margins. In a flexible packaging market defined by shorter runs and more SKUs, that non-stop philosophy is precisely what converters are shopping for. By elevating the site to Centre of Excellence, ABG signals that flexible packaging is now a core strategic pillar rather than an adjacent interest.
Simon Nadin, group CEO of ABG, framed the transition as a natural progression. “With Girona’s considerable engineering knowledge and expertise, particularly in flexible packaging, the transition from Enprom Solutions to ABG Girona is a natural progression,” he said. Establishing the site as the Centre of Excellence, he added, brings that specialist capability together with ABG’s global resources and provides a strong platform for the continued development of FlexPack and the wider flexible packaging offering. He was clear that this is “much more than a name change,” demonstrating commitment to Girona, to continued investment and innovation, and to expanding ABG’s presence in the global flexible packaging market.
Joan Marc Taboas, CEO and executive director of ABG Girona, said the transition gives the operation a stronger, more visible identity within the ABG group while retaining the engineering experience, customer relationships and entrepreneurial approach built under the Enprom name. The support of ABG and Kocher+Beck, he noted, is helping strengthen the site’s international position, expand its capabilities and pursue new opportunities in flexible packaging, all while staying focused on engineering excellence, collaboration and customer success.
Lars Beck, managing director of Kocher+Beck, said the integration sends a clear signal to the market, creating a strong foundation for new customers in flexible packaging and reaffirming commitment to converter customers and the workforce through a long-term, sustainable corporate strategy. The business will keep collaborating with Kocher+Beck in Germany on specialist projects and new technology development, and its legal entity will become ABG International Solutions Girona SL, subject to final administrative approval.
The flexible packaging equipment market is attractive precisely because it is fracturing. Brand owners want shorter runs, more formats and faster changeovers, which favours modular, automated lines over monolithic machines. ABG’s decision to concentrate that know-how in Girona suggests it expects flexible packaging to outgrow its traditional label roots and become a primary growth engine. The non-stop technology, which keeps lines running through roll and job changes, speaks directly to the labour and uptime pressures converters report across every region.
For customers, the rebrand reduces confusion. Where Enprom, ABG and Kocher+Beck once appeared as related but distinct names, a single ABG Girona identity presents one accountable engineering source for flexible packaging. That clarity helps when a converter is specifying a line that must integrate with existing ABG label equipment and Kocher+Beck tooling. The Centre of Excellence label is thus both a technical claim and a commercial signal that the group is organised to win flexible packaging, not merely participate in it.
For ABG, the rebrand also sharpens a competitive story. The label and flexible-packaging equipment field is crowded with specialists; anchoring a global Centre of Excellence in Girona lets ABG present a coordinated, group-wide proposition rather than a collection of regional products. As the legal transition completes, ABG Girona becomes both a name and a statement of intent about where the group believes converter growth will come from next.
For the wider converting landscape, the move underscores a consolidation of expertise that mirrors the market’s own consolidation. As flexible packaging converges with labelling and folding cartons, equipment suppliers are reorganising to offer joined-up solutions rather than point machines. ABG Girona is the clearest expression of that strategy from the ABG side, and its success will be measured not by the rebrand but by how many converters adopt its non-stop lines to compete on speed and format range.
