Roland DG has launched the TrueVis MG2 Series, a next-generation UV printer/cutter range built to help print businesses move up the value chain without sacrificing speed or margin. The series comprises the 64-inch MG2-640 and the 30-inch MG2-300, and Roland DG positions it as a single integrated UV print-and-cut solution that combines higher productivity, strong image quality, expanded application capability and lower running costs.
The headline claim is approximately twice the productivity of the previous MG Series. At the core is a newly developed printhead paired with advanced waveform control technology. Faster print speeds translate directly into higher daily output, shorter turnaround times and improved profitability, all without compromising quality. Combined with better workflow automation and enhanced maintenance functions, the MG2 Series is designed to keep production moving and minimize downtime, a persistent pain point for shops running deadline-driven work.
Image quality gets equal attention. The MG2 incorporates Roland DG’s latest technologies, including improved ink placement accuracy, Variable Dot Technology and True Rich Color print settings, producing vibrant graphics, smooth gradations and fine detail. Beyond standard CMYK, optional Orange and Red inks widen the color gamut and increase Pantone coverage, letting users reproduce brand colors more accurately while creating impactful output. True Rich Color balances vivid color with natural skin tones and neutral grays, a detail that matters for high-end retail and photographic work.
Where the MG2 clearly aims higher is in premium applications. Using single-pass multi-layer printing, the machine can stack up to five layers simultaneously by combining CMYK, White and Gloss inks. That enables visually striking, high-value products that pair full color with white undercoats, gloss finishes and textured or embossed effects, adding depth and dimension. Producing multiple layers in one pass removes the need to reverse-feed media between layers, reducing misalignment and media jams while delivering consistent results. With an integrated take-up system, both models support continuous multi-layer production and reliable unattended, including overnight, operation.
Seventy-two built-in texture libraries give users a starting point for decorative effects, helping them broaden offerings and pursue higher-margin opportunities. The integrated print-and-cut technology simplifies production by letting users print and contour cut in one streamlined workflow, and the series is compatible with Roland DG and Graphtec cutting devices for tailored setups. A redesigned take-up system keeps media off the floor during jobs, improving reliability and reducing operator intervention.
Running costs are addressed through new 1,000 ml ink pouches that lower ink cost and reduce replacement frequency, plus automated media setup and calibration. Direct Print functionality lets users execute jobs straight from the device, and an automatic fabric wiper helps maintain quality while cutting routine maintenance. Software-wise, VersaWorks 7 handles color management and production control, while Roland DG Connect offers remote monitoring, analytics and business insights.
“The MG2 Series has been developed to help print businesses capture new opportunities in the growing UV market,” said Ryugo Nimura, executive officer of the Global Sales and Marketing Division at Roland DG. “By combining approximately twice the productivity of the previous generation with outstanding image quality, advanced multi-layer capabilities, integrated print & cut functionality, and lower running costs, the MG2 Series enables customers to produce higher-value applications more efficiently while increasing profitability.” The MG2-640 and MG2-300 are available now through authorized Roland DG partners. For sign makers, display graphics specialists, label producers and packaging converters seeking to expand capabilities, the series represents a calculated push into the profitable, premium end of UV printing.
The launch also lands as the UV print market shifts from early adopters to mainstream users who care less about specifications and more about total cost and uptime. By roughly doubling productivity while lowering ink cost through larger pouches and reducing maintenance via the automatic fabric wiper, Roland DG is targeting the pragmatic majority: shops that need the machine to simply keep running and paying for itself. The multi-layer, single-pass embellishment capability deserves particular attention because it speaks to where margin actually lives in UV printing. As commodity signage compresses in price, decorative and specialty applications, premium labels, packaging prototypes and textured promotional graphics are where smaller shops can defend higher rates. Giving them five-layer printing without manual media flipping lowers the skill barrier to that premium work. Combined with unattended overnight operation, the MG2 Series is built for owners who want to monetize capacity they are not physically present to babysit. That is a clear read of where the mid-range UV buyer’s priorities now sit.
For smaller print businesses, the MG2’s appeal is that it does not demand a specialist operator to unlock its premium features. Single-pass multi-layer printing with built-in texture libraries lowers the skill threshold for embellishment work that previously required careful manual setup, and unattended overnight runs turn idle hours into sellable output. That capability is increasingly the difference between a shop that competes on price and one that competes on value. Roland DG’s ecosystem play, pairing the hardware with VersaWorks 7 and Roland DG Connect, also nudges customers toward a managed, data-informed operation rather than a standalone box. The 1,000 ml ink pouches are a quiet but meaningful cost lever, lowering both per-milliliter expense and the labor of frequent changeovers. Taken together, the MG2 Series is a clear attempt to own the mid-range UV sweet spot by wrapping productivity, quality, application range and running cost into one coherent offer for the pragmatic majority of buyers.
