Nobelus Brings Thermal Lamination Science to Flexible Packaging at Loupe Americas 2026

Nobelus is taking thermal lamination out of the finishing room and into the heart of flexible packaging design. At Loupe Americas 2026 in Chicago, the company is using booth 5916 to showcase a portfolio built specifically for digital-market converters that want specialty finishes, structural films and all-polyethylene sealant structures without re-engineering their entire press workflow.

The headline products are StrataFlex METPET Thermal Pre-Lams and EcoElement PE Thermal Sealants. StrataFlex METPET incorporates a thermally activated adhesive layer that lets converters reverse-print on adhesive-free films and cut down on material changeovers during a run. EcoElement PE Thermal Sealants are all-PE structures that combine a sealant and a thermal adhesive layer around a polyethylene core, offered in both white and clear with barrier and non-barrier versions. According to Nobelus, pairing reverse printing on PE film with thermal lamination to an EcoElement sealant can remove an entire layer from the packaging structure, which directly supports downgauging and improves converter margins.

That last point matters more than it sounds. For years, the flexible packaging industry treated material reduction and premium looks as opposing goals. A brand owner could have a recyclable mono-material pouch or a glossy, high-impact shelf presence, but rarely both without adding cost and complexity. By collapsing a layer and leaning on thermal adhesion, Nobelus is arguing that sustainability and shelf appeal can be engineered into the same structure rather than traded against each other.

Alongside the core films, Nobelus is also showing its specialty finish range, including Karess soft-touch, FineGrit rough-touch and the newly launched FineGrain finish, as well as holographic patterns and scratch-resistant options available both as films and as thermal laminates. The strategy is clearly to give converters a menu of differentiation tools they can mix and match per brand, per SKU, without leaving the Nobelus ecosystem.

“Nobelus will showcase our line of thermal sealants, thermal pre-lams, and specialty finishes,” said Angie Mohni, chief marketing officer at Nobelus. “We look forward to engaging with converters to discuss how these solutions create differentiation and incremental profit margin opportunities.” The wording is deliberate: Nobelus is not just selling film, it is selling margin. In a market where converters are squeezed between resin costs and brand-owner price pressure, a supplier that can demonstrate a measurable uplift in profitability is far easier to put on the approved vendor list.

The broader context is the steady migration of brand owners toward mono-material and recyclable flexible packaging. Regulatory pressure in Europe and voluntary commitments elsewhere have pushed recyclability to the top of the packaging brief. But recyclability only works if the structure can still be produced, filled and sealed on existing equipment at acceptable speed. Thermal pre-lams and PE sealants that drop into current workflows lower the friction of that transition, which is precisely why Nobelus is targeting Loupe’s converter-heavy audience.

There is also a quiet productivity story here. Fewer layers and fewer changeovers mean less setup time, less scrap and more sellable output per shift. For a flexible packaging printer running short, brand-driven runs, those efficiency gains can be as valuable as the material savings themselves. Nobelus is effectively packaging sustainability, aesthetics and throughput into a single commercial conversation.

The move also reflects a wider strategic rethinking of where value sits in the flexible packaging supply chain. For most of the past decade, converters competed largely on throughput and price, with film and adhesive choices treated as commodities sourced separately from finishing. Nobelus is proposing the opposite: that the lamination and sealing layer is itself a lever for both sustainability and margin, and that bringing it into the design conversation early pays back across the whole pack. That framing matters because it elevates the converter from a toll coater to a solutions partner in the eyes of the brand owner. It also aligns with the fast-growing requirement from retailers and regulators that flexible packaging be recyclable in practice, not just in theory. A mono-material PE structure that can actually be processed by existing recovery streams is worth a premium to brands under extended-producer-responsibility schemes, and Nobelus is positioning its thermal films as the practical enabler of that goal. Whether the approach scales beyond early adopters will depend on how quickly recovery infrastructure catches up, but the technical direction is no longer in doubt.

For converters weighing the switch, the business case rests on three numbers: fewer layers, fewer changeovers and a defensible margin story to take to brand owners. Nobelus is essentially selling the ability to say yes to a recyclable pack without sacrificing the look that earns shelf space. That is a rare combination in flexible packaging, where sustainability upgrades have so often meant a visible compromise. The Loupe Americas setting is apt, because the show’s converter audience is exactly the group that must make these trade-offs real on the pressroom floor. If the thermal pre-lam and PE sealant pairing performs as described through full commercial runs, it could become a reference architecture for mono-material pouches that still feel premium. The finishing and specialty-film portfolio around it then becomes the upsell that keeps the converter inside one supplier’s ecosystem, which is where durable, margin-rich relationships are built.
