La Etiqueta, one of Mexico’s most comprehensive label and packaging converters, has installed a second HP Indigo 6K+ digital press, becoming the first company in Mexico and Latin America to run two of the machines. The move is notable not just for the hardware but for the momentum behind it: the second press followed the first by only six months, a clear signal of accelerating demand for premium digital label production in the region.
The company’s roots run deep. With more than 90 years of experience in the Mexican label industry, La Etiqueta has evolved from a traditional converter into a full-service provider whose portfolio now extends beyond premium labels to include shrink sleeves and high-end folding cartons. That breadth lets it serve cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, wine and spirits, toys, stationery and consumer goods, a range that rewards the kind of short-run flexibility digital printing makes possible.
Under the leadership of CEO Itzhak Levy, La Etiqueta made a strategic bet that digital printing would become a pillar of the label business. Backed by Sun Digital, HP Industrial’s authorized partner in Mexico, the company took the bold step of installing two HP Indigo 6K+ presses. Levy says the impact was immediate: today the company produces nearly four million labels every month using the two presses, and the second 6K+ was justified by the need for enhanced capabilities and higher productivity.
“Today, at La Etiqueta, we produce nearly four million labels every month using two HP Indigo presses. That’s why we decided to invest in the new HP Indigo 6K+, which gave us the opportunity to have a digital press with enhanced capabilities and higher productivity,” Levy said. The rapid follow-on investment reflected growing production volumes and rising market demand, reinforcing the company’s position as one of the leading digital label converters in Latin America.
Customer demand for premium digital labels accelerated the business on several fronts. Faster turnaround times, outstanding print quality and the economic viability of shorter, more diverse jobs combined to strengthen relationships with existing customers while attracting new business across multiple market segments. Digital production became a competitive advantage rather than merely a capacity add.
The transformation has been supported by a close partnership with Sun Digital. Beyond supplying technology, the local partner has accompanied La Etiqueta through implementation, application development and ongoing service, helping maximize the value of each investment. That trio of converter, global technology provider and local partner is exactly the kind of ecosystem HP Industrial has cultivated in growing markets, and La Etiqueta is held up as a model of how it can accelerate competitiveness.
For La Etiqueta, digital technology is not simply another production method, it is a platform for continuous innovation. The company uses it to help brands launch products faster, produce multiple SKUs more efficiently, reduce inventory requirements and respond to evolving market needs with greater agility. The 90-year-old business is, in effect, running like a far younger, digitally native one.
The implications for the broader Latin American label market are significant. As global brands and regional businesses look for manufacturing partners with world-class digital capabilities, converters that can deliver speed, quality and agility at scale are positioned to capture share. La Etiqueta’s twin-press strategy is a bet that those capabilities, not just price, will decide the next decade of label converting in the region.
As demand for high-quality, sustainable and agile label production continues to grow, La Etiqueta says it will keep investing in innovation, productivity and customer value. For a company that started in the Mexican label trade nine decades ago, digital transformation has become more than an operational decision, it is the foundation of its future growth.
