INX International Publishes 2025 Sustainability Report With Hard Metrics

INX International Ink, a leading formulator of inks and coatings for print and packaging, has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, laying out measurable progress across product innovation, operational performance, climate action, circularity, and responsible business practices. The document is positioned as both a transparency exercise and a strategic roadmap.

Bryce Kristo, President and CEO of INX International, framed the company’s role broadly, noting that INX is uniquely positioned to advance sustainability across the print and packaging industry through technologies that support a wide range of packaging applications. He emphasized that combining ink and coating science with manufacturing expertise and close customer collaboration yields practical solutions that advance circularity, safer chemistry, and more efficient production without compromising performance.

Product innovation remains central to that strategy. The report highlights washable inks that support recycling and de-inking, barrier coatings that address both packaging performance and resource efficiency, low-VOC and water-based technologies, and naturally derived products. Each is aimed at helping customers meet evolving sustainability and packaging requirements while keeping the performance levels commercial production demands.

The report also quantifies operational gains. At the company’s Homewood, Illinois, site, a solar farm generated 179.84 megawatt hours of renewable electricity, reducing reliance on grid power. Renewable Energy Certificates representing 21,887 megawatt hours supported INX’s broader renewable electricity strategy. Across the Americas, 72.6 percent of operational waste was diverted from landfill through reuse, recycling, and both material and energy recovery.

External recognition backs the numbers. An EcoVadis Silver rating placed INX among the top 15 percent of assessed companies, and a Great Place to Work certification reflected positive feedback from 78 percent of participating US employees. Those signals matter to brand owners who now scrutinize their suppliers’ environmental and social credentials as part of procurement.

Peter Paul Obijaju, Director of ESG at INX International, stressed that meaningful sustainability progress requires clear goals, reliable data, and accountability. The report, he said, demonstrates continued commitment to measurable improvement and greater transparency, with selected performance indicators receiving independent third-party assurance.

Operational AI also made an appearance in the results. In 2025, INX used AI to improve production planning and streamline manufacturing, enabling selected operations to compress production schedules from seven days to five while maintaining output. That reduction lowered energy demand and improved equipment utilization, a reminder that efficiency and emissions goals often align.

INX also increased the share of carbon emissions data obtained directly from raw material suppliers to 17 percent, exceeding its 15 percent target, and reported 4,489.20 cubic meters of recycled or reused water. The emphasis on supply-chain data reflects a maturing approach in which Scope 3 considerations move from aspiration to measurement.

For the printing and packaging value chain, INX’s report is notable because ink and coating chemistry sits at the intersection of recyclability and performance. De-inkable formulations and barrier coatings can determine whether a package qualifies for a given recovery stream, making supplier innovation a lever brand owners cannot ignore.

The company’s framing also reflects a shift in how specialty chemical suppliers communicate. Sustainability reports are no longer aspirational brochures but structured disclosures with audited figures, reflecting regulatory pressure and customer demand alike. INX’s decision to publish hard metrics rather than vague commitments positions it credibly with procurement teams building greener supply chains.

As packaging sustainability regulation tightens in major markets, suppliers that can document both chemistry and outcomes will hold an edge. INX’s 2025 report suggests the company intends to be among them.

INX’s report is worth reading against the broader chemical-industry backdrop, where sustainability communication has often drifted into vague pledge-making. The decision to publish audited, third-party-assured figures, including a 72.6 percent landfill diversion rate and a concrete renewable electricity volume, signals a supplier preparing for exactly the procurement scrutiny that brand owners now apply downstream. The AI-driven schedule compression, from seven-day to five-day production cycles, is an underrated highlight: it shows decarbonization and productivity are not always in tension. By running the same output in fewer days, INX cut energy use and lifted equipment utilization simultaneously, a template other processors could copy. The 17 percent supplier-level emissions data, already past its 15 percent target, hints at where the hard work of Scope 3 accounting is heading for every formulator. For converters, the practical takeaway is that ink choice is becoming a measurable lever in their own sustainability reporting, not just a cosmetic one. INX is quietly positioning its chemistry as infrastructure for the circular packaging claims its customers must increasingly defend. The report also implicitly challenges peers to move beyond narrative, since procurement teams now treat audited disclosure as table stakes rather than a differentiator. Suppliers that lag on measurement will find themselves excluded from tenders before they understand why.
