25 Years of Printing on Anything: How Inkcups Keeps Pushing Past the Edge

A quarter century of “printing beyond boundaries”

Some companies pick a lane. Inkcups has spent 25 years arguing there is no lane — just surfaces waiting to be decorated. As the Massachusetts-based specialist celebrates its 25th year in 2026, it is bringing that philosophy to PRINTING United Expo (23–25 September, Las Vegas, booth C1215) with a lineup of direct-to-object UV and pad printing gear that keeps redrawing where a printer can reach.

The thread through the whole booth is a phrase Inkcups used last year and clearly intends to own: “printing beyond boundaries.” This year that is literal, thanks to a technology called High Throw.

The star: Helix High Throw

The Helix High Throw UV Cylindrical Printer launched in June 2026 and has already picked up a PRINTING United Alliance Pinnacle Technology Award. What makes it special is throw distance: it handles height variations of up to 0.59 inches (15 mm) when decorating cylindrical and conical products. Translation — it can print cleanly on stepped and tapered vessels, items with handles, and shapes as unlikely as footballs, rugby balls, pet bowls, and planters.

For anyone who has fought a press that demands a perfectly straight, perfectly round object, that 15 mm of forgiveness is the difference between “impossible” and “just another job.” High Throw expands helical printing far beyond drinkware, and that is the point.

More High Throw, and a benchtop option

The X5-T High Throw takes the same idea to flatter but still tricky shapes — mugs, tiered drinkware, sporting equipment, coolers, luggage. By increasing the gap between printhead and substrate, it lays down accurate, high-quality prints on contoured and slightly curved objects that would normally blur or band.

For shops wary of the investment, the Helix ONE brings Inkcups’ patented Helix tech into a compact benchtop. It decorates straight-walled and tapered cylindrical drinkware — bottles, tumblers, candle holders — and will be shown next to a personalization kiosk. That is a deliberate invitation to apparel decorators and even packaging businesses to try direct-to-object without betting the farm.

Pad printing, still going strong

Inkcups is not forgetting the technology that built it. The B100 1-Colour Tabletop Pad Printer is a heavy-duty workhorse aimed at replacing sewn-in tags and heat transfers on clothing, and at promotional items — pens, napkins, silicone wristbands, mint tins, stress balls, even medical and electronic devices. The 2200-PS 2-Colour Pad Printer uses a dual-position pneumatic pad-slide that keeps the garment still for flawless second-colour registration, ideal for two-colour apparel and tagless labels.

And the plate-making side gets an upgrade too. The Cobalt Edge is a 20-watt MOPA fibre laser etching plates with a 4.7 x 4.7 inch marking area and a 100,000-hour fibre source. The Cobalt Pro+, launched in July 2026, is up to 20% faster than its predecessor, trimming turnaround and lifting throughput without sacrificing quality.

Why 25 years still matters

Jessica Makrinos, Inkcups’ Marketing Manager, tied the milestone to the message: “2026 also marks Inkcups’ 25th year of driving innovation that empowers our customers to unlock growth, so it’s fitting that the Inkcups booth will showcase technologies that enable our customers to really push beyond those limits.”

That is more than anniversary PR. A quarter century in direct-to-object means Inkcups has ridden every wave — pad to UV to digital — and kept shipping machines that solve real decoration problems. The applications on display tell the story: bowls and stemless wine tumblers from the Helix High Throw, latte cups from the Helix ONE, chopsticks from the B100, lens cloths from the 2200-PS, plates etched by the Cobalt lasers.

The takeaway for decorators

If your business decorates objects, the throughline is clear: the boundary between “printable” and “not printable” keeps moving, and the shops that grow are the ones willing to follow it. High Throw tech alone opens conical, handled, and oddly shaped products that were off-limits a few years ago. Combined with accessible benchtop entry points and faster plate-making, the cost of stepping into direct-to-object has rarely been lower.

Twenty-five years in, Inkcups is still making the same bet — that somewhere out there is a surface nobody has decorated yet, and the right machine will let you be the first.
