CMYUK Brings JWEI’s Faster, Quieter SG Cutting Range to Its Largest-Ever Print Show Stand

CMYUK has confirmed it will give JWEI’s newest digital cutting systems their first public UK showing later this month, and the move says as much about the finishing market as it does about the machines themselves. The supplier will demonstrate the JWEI SG1625 and the larger SG3216 on its stand at The Print Show, running 29 September to 1 October at the NEC in Birmingham.

For a company that has built its reputation on large-format print and finishing, the choice of venue is deliberate. The Print Show draws a broad cross-section of commercial printers, sign-makers and packaging producers who can see the new cutters running live rather than relying on specification sheets. CMYUK will occupy the largest stand in the event’s history at 285 square metres, a clear signal of how seriously it is taking the JWEI launch.

Speed is the headline number. CMYUK says cutting speeds on the new SG generation have increased by 33.3 per cent to 2,000 millimetres per second, supported by an upgraded internal drive system that delivers smoother movement, faster response and improved stability across the X, Y, Z and T axes. Operating noise has also been reduced to 64 decibels, a detail that matters more than it sounds in a busy production environment where multiple machines run side by side.

The two models are pitched at different parts of the market. The SG1625 offers a 1.6 by 2.5 metre cutting area and is positioned for everyday commercial work across signage, display graphics, point-of-sale, packaging, textiles and specialist applications. The SG3216 brings a 3.2 by 1.6 metre bed, aimed at businesses handling wide-format roll textiles that need the additional width without committing to a longer table that would dominate the floor.

For textile production, the SG3216 can be paired with an optional rear de-tensioning unit developed by Neolt Factory. CMYUK says the system synchronises with the conveyor to feed roll media in a stable, controlled state, helping to reduce stretching and distortion. It can handle rolls up to 100 metres long and 100 kilograms in weight, which puts it firmly in the territory of high-volume soft-signage and fabric display work.

Sue Hayward, commercial director at CMYUK, frames the launch in terms of value rather than raw specification. ‘JWEI has changed expectations in the digital finishing market by showing that customers do not have to compromise on capability, build quality or support to achieve better value,’ she said. ‘The SG1625 and SG3216 represent the next stage of that development. They are faster, quieter and more refined, while remaining straightforward to operate.’

That emphasis on support is no accident. CMYUK has long sold itself on the full package: installation, training, applications expertise, technical assistance, consumables and spare parts. In a finishing market where buyers are increasingly wary of low-cost equipment that arrives with thin backing, the message is that the machine is only part of the proposition.

The stand itself will function as a working showcase. Alongside the JWEI cutters, CMYUK will demonstrate a spread of large-format digital print products including the EFI Vutek M3h printer, the Canon Colorado M5W and Neolt finishing technology. A dedicated sample area will display material outputs from a range of technologies, while video screens will run customer case studies and live samples. The company will also introduce its new Sign and Graphics Materials portfolio, rounding out a stand designed to illustrate an end-to-end workflow rather than a single product.

Market context helps explain the launch. Digital cutting has graduated from a finishing afterthought to a strategic capability as printers diversify into packaging, retail display and interior decor. The bottleneck in many operations has shifted from the print engine to what happens afterwards: trimming, routing, creasing and contour-cutting a widening range of substrates at speed. JWEI’s rise is itself a story worth noting. A Chinese manufacturer that a decade ago was a lower-cost alternative has, through the SG generation, moved into direct comparison with established names on build quality and support, not just price. CMYUK’s bet is that UK buyers are increasingly willing to consider that provenance when the total package, installation, training, spare parts and applications know-how, is handled locally. For smaller shops, a 33 per cent speed gain on a 1.6 by 2.5 metre bed can be the difference between accepting a rush job and turning it away. For larger soft-signage operations, the wide-bed SG3216 paired with Neolt’s de-tensioning unit addresses the persistent problem of stretch and distortion in roll textiles. The 285 square metre stand is more than spectacle; it is a statement that finishing now carries as much weight on the show floor as the printers themselves.

The broader signal for the UK finishing market is that distributors are investing heavily in demonstration capacity. A 285 square metre stand is a significant commitment of floor space and resource, and it reflects CMYUK’s confidence that demand for digital cutting is durable rather than a post-pandemic spike. Printers that once treated finishing as a manual, afterthought stage are now re-evaluating it as a profit centre, particularly as margins on pure print come under pressure and value shifts to converted, finished product. JWEI’s trajectory from budget alternative to credible mainstream contender also reflects a wider pattern in print equipment, where Chinese manufacturers have closed the quality gap and now compete on the completeness of the package rather than price alone. For CMYUK, attaching installation, training and spare-parts support to the hardware is what protects the relationship when a cheaper import appears. The Print Show audience, heavy with owner-operators, is exactly the group that weighs that support most carefully before signing.
