Brother GTX300 Combines DTG and DTF Printing in One Hybrid Machine for Apparel Decorators

Brother has introduced the GTX300, a hybrid direct-to-garment and direct-to-film printing machine that combines two production methods in a single industrial platform. Launching in Europe, Middle East and Africa on September 1, the GTX300 addresses a market reality shaped by personalisation, shorter production runs, and demands for fast delivery — giving apparel decorators the flexibility to choose the most efficient production method for each job rather than maintaining separate DTG and DTF equipment.

The Hybrid Advantage: Two Methods, One Machine

The garment decoration market has been divided between DTG and DTF advocates, each method offering distinct advantages. DTG prints directly onto cotton garments, producing vibrant full-colour images with soft hand feel and no transfer step. DTF creates transfers on special film that can be applied to polyester, blends, and a wide range of other substrates that DTG cannot handle directly. The limitation for most businesses has been choosing one method and accepting its constraints, or investing in two separate machines with different maintenance routines, ink systems, and workflow requirements.

The GTX300 eliminates this binary choice. With both DTG and DTF capabilities in a single machine, users select the most efficient production method for each job — printing directly onto cotton garments when the substrate allows, or creating DTF transfers for polyester, blends, and applications where transfer flexibility offers production advantages. This enables businesses to take on more orders, reduce production limitations, and explore revenue opportunities that previously required a second capital investment.

Target Markets and Business Models

Brother has identified seven target segments for the GTX300, each benefiting from the hybrid capability in different ways. Apparel decorators and custom printers gain vibrant prints, faster production, and the ability to handle a wider variety of garments. Startups and entrepreneurs find an affordable, easy-to-use industrial solution that can grow with their business without requiring separate machine purchases as they expand into new substrate types.

Promotional product suppliers benefit from durable, high-quality prints across different products and materials — a market where DTG excels on cotton tote bags and DTF dominates on polyester sportswear. Screen printers wanting to expand into digital production avoid complex setup or additional production steps, using the GTX300 as a bridge technology that complements rather than replaces their existing screen equipment.

E-commerce and print-on-demand sellers gain the flexibility, reduced inventory risk, and fast order fulfilment that both DTG and DTF enable — but with a single machine footprint and maintenance regime rather than two. Fashion designers and boutique brands producing limited collections, custom designs, and unique apparel pieces benefit from the ability to produce DTG prints and create DTF transfers in advance, increasing production flexibility and helping meet tight delivery schedules.

Professional Performance Features

The GTX300 combines versatility with professional-grade specifications. New Brother industrial printheads deliver reliable performance at high print speeds with high-resolution output. A compact footprint enables efficient workspace integration — important for small studios and retail storefront customisation providers where floor space is constrained. Included print software streamlines production, and an intuitive 7-inch touchscreen simplifies operation for users who may not have extensive print production experience.

Automated maintenance functions ensure consistent performance across extended production runs — reducing the manual maintenance burden that has traditionally consumed operator time on DTG machines. White enhanced mode detection identifies pure white areas in artwork to optimise white ink coverage, addressing a common DTG production challenge where over-application of white underbase ink wastes material and extends cure times.

The Market Context for Hybrid Solutions

The garment decoration market is experiencing structural shifts that favour hybrid approaches. Consumer demand for personalisation is growing across apparel, accessories, and promotional products. Production runs are shrinking as brands and retailers move toward on-demand and small-batch models. Delivery expectations are tightening, with e-commerce platforms promising fast turnaround that requires production methods capable of handling diverse substrate requirements without delay.

DTF technology has gained significant market traction over the past three years, particularly for applications involving polyester and blended substrates that DTG cannot address directly. However, DTF transfers add a production step — printing film, applying adhesive powder, curing, then heat-pressing onto the garment — that increases labour time and material cost compared to direct DTG printing. A hybrid machine that offers both methods allows operators to choose the most efficient path for each specific job, optimising both production time and material cost.

Beyond Hardware: Brother’s Service Ecosystem

Like all Brother solutions, the GTX300 is backed by comprehensive training resources, technical support, and the company’s commitment to helping customers succeed. This “At Your Side” philosophy extends the product value beyond hardware specifications into the operational domain where many DTG and DTF businesses struggle — workflow setup, colour management, maintenance routines, and troubleshooting. For companies new to digital garment printing, this support infrastructure reduces the risk inherent in transitioning from screen printing or outsourcing to in-house production.

The September 1 EMEA launch date gives Brother several months to build distribution and service coverage before the machine reaches customers, ensuring that the support ecosystem is operational when the first units ship. This phased rollout approach contrasts with some competitors who launch products before service infrastructure is fully established, creating early-adopter frustration that damages market reputation.
