Fiery Unveils AI-Powered DFEs with Touchless Color Control for Konica Minolta AccurioPress

Fiery has announced two next-generation digital front ends for the Konica Minolta AccurioPress C5080 series, combining AI-powered workflow automation with touchless color control to reduce manual intervention and improve consistency in production print environments.

Two Configurations for Different Production Needs

The Fiery IC-321 and Fiery IC-421 are built on the Fiery FS700 Pro platform and are purpose-designed for the AccurioPress C5080, C5070, C5065 and C5065P models. The Windows-based IC-321 is aimed at advanced production workflows and higher-volume environments, while the Linux-based IC-421 is optimized for reliable essential production.

Both DFEs are designed to help print providers accelerate turnaround times, scale operations and drive profitable growth by reducing the manual work required to prepare and manage jobs. The choice between the two configurations allows print providers to match the DFE to their workflow complexity and production volume.

AI Automation From Job Intake to Output

The new DFEs integrate with Fiery’s AI-empowered solutions to streamline production. Fiery JobExpert automatically analyzes each job and selects optimal color and imaging settings, reducing manual decision-making during setup. Fiery JobFlow Pro, an AI-powered workflow solution, understands job contents, applies the right presets, explains preflight results in simple language, and routes files to the appropriate workflows without constant operator oversight.

Fiery Scribe, an agentic AI solution, reads email job requests and converts them into print-ready jobs automatically. For a business receiving only 20 email requests per day, Fiery estimates this can save more than 10 hours of work per month by eliminating the manual data entry and file handling typically associated with email-based job submission. As email remains a common channel for job submission in many print shops, this kind of automation directly addresses a recurring operational bottleneck.

Touchless Color Control

Color consistency has traditionally required operators to make frequent calibration and color adjustments as media, environmental conditions and press performance change. The IC-321 and IC-421 leverage the Konica Minolta IQ-601 Intelligent Quality Optimizer’s inline spectrophotometer to continuously measure and adjust color output throughout production.

Fiery’s Zero Touch recalibration and one-step color management integrate with the IQ-601 to automate media calibration and profiling. Fiery ColorGuard provides hands-free color verification and correction, monitoring output and triggering recalibration only when needed. Fiery TrueBrand and Spot-On help ensure accurate brand color reproduction without requiring deep in-house color expertise.

This combination of hardware and software is intended to reduce the color management burden on operators, allowing less experienced staff to produce consistent color while freeing experienced operators for higher-value tasks.

Positioning in the Market

John Henze, vice president of sales and marketing at Fiery, said the new DFEs combine professional-grade performance, touchless color control and AI-enhanced workflow automation to unlock the full potential of the AccurioPress C5080 series. Jason Dizzine, vice president of portfolio management and planning at Konica Minolta, added that the pairing of Fiery’s Zero Touch recalibration with the IQ-601 provides an easy way to maintain precise and accurate color.

The Fiery IC-321 and IC-421 are available worldwide through Konica Minolta dealers. The release signals continued convergence between production hardware, color science and AI-driven automation in the commercial print market. As print providers face labor constraints and pressure to shorten turnaround times, solutions that reduce manual setup and color management become increasingly valuable.

What This Means for Print Providers

For commercial printers, the main benefit of these new DFEs is the ability to maintain high-quality output with less manual intervention. This is especially important as experienced operators retire and younger workers enter the industry with less hands-on color management experience. Automation that embeds expert knowledge into software can help preserve quality standards while reducing dependency on individual technicians.

The integration of AI into production workflows is also a sign of where the industry is heading. Tasks that once required human judgment are increasingly being handled by intelligent systems that can analyze job content, make recommendations, and even take action autonomously. Print providers that embrace these tools are likely to be more productive and more consistent than those that rely on traditional manual workflows.

From a financial perspective, reducing setup time and waste directly improves profitability. In competitive commercial print markets, the ability to turn jobs around faster with fewer errors can be a significant differentiator. The Fiery DFEs are positioned as tools that help printers achieve both operational efficiency and quality consistency.

The broader trend behind the Fiery launch is the automation of expert knowledge. In the past, consistent color and efficient production depended heavily on skilled operators. As those skills become scarcer, software and hardware must capture and automate more of that expertise. DFEs like the IC-321 and IC-421 represent a step toward a future where production quality is less dependent on individual technicians and more on reliable, repeatable systems.

Beyond the headline features, the new DFEs also support modern file formats, cloud-connected services and remote monitoring capabilities that align with the way print shops increasingly manage distributed production. These connectivity layers make it easier for businesses to centralize job preparation, track device performance and roll out software updates without visiting each press. For multi-site operations, that integration can be as valuable as the color automation itself.
