Canpac Trends takes its tenth Koenig & Bauer Rapida in ten years as it scales to 12 sites

Indian packaging specialist Canpac Trends has signed for its tenth Koenig & Bauer Rapida sheetfed offset press within ten years, a milestone that underlines both the company’s breakneck growth and the depth of its partnership with the German press manufacturer. The latest machine — a 7-colour Rapida 106 with a coating tower and full UV package — will be installed at the company’s Tirupur plant, with the press currently there relocated to another site as part of a continuing capacity expansion that shows no sign of slowing.

Aditya Surana, managing director of Indo Polygraph Machinery, Koenig & Bauer’s Indian sales and service partner, framed the repeat order bluntly: “Ten Rapida presses in ten years is a true reflection of Canpac’s confidence in the performance, reliability and return on investment of Koenig & Bauer presses.” He credited the ongoing trust shared between Canpac, Indo Polygraph Machinery and Koenig & Bauer, and looked forward to “many more milestones together,” a sentiment that reflects a relationship measured in decades rather than single transactions.

Canpac’s trajectory has been remarkable. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Ahmedabad, the company has grown into one of India’s fastest-growing packaging manufacturers since its first Rapida investment in 2017. It serves more than 600 global and regional brands with tailored packaging spanning folding cartons, corrugated boxes, paper bags and flexible laminates. In the coming quarter it will expand its production network — already spanning Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Tirupur, Kolkata, New Delhi and Silvassa — to a total of 12 sites, a footprint that would have been unthinkable a decade ago.

Scale is the other headline. To meet rising demand from eCommerce, quick-commerce and FMCG customers, Canpac operates a decentralized manufacturing footprint exceeding 1.35 million square metres of production space. Its in-house innovation center, BIRD (Bank of Innovation, Research & Development), drives paper-based packaging solutions forward. Close regional proximity shortens logistics chains and gives brand owners maximum flexibility and fast time-to-market, a structural advantage in a market where delivery speed is a competitive weapon.

Raag Todi, director of Canpac Trends, articulated a philosophical operating principle: “We simply focus on doing the right thing — without fear, without greed, without emotion,” with the whole team aligned to “the right product, the right price, the right service.” He noted the company is “well on our way to touching the lives of 500 million people,” an ambition that frames Canpac less as a converter and more as national packaging infrastructure.

Trust in Koenig & Bauer’s technology and service team forms the technological backbone of that expansion. The high reliability, reproducibility and efficiency of the Rapida platforms let Canpac keep quality promises to customers nationwide and enter new market segments. Nilesh Todi, managing director of Canpac, called the decade-long journey “fabulous” and reaffirmed complete trust in both the press and the Indo Polygraph Machinery team, a vote of confidence that explains why a single supplier now accounts for ten of the company’s presses.

For the Indian packaging sector, Canpac’s story is a microcosm of its modernization: regional converters investing heavily in world-class sheetfed offset to serve a consumer economy that is digitizing its retail faster than almost anywhere. Ten Rapidas in ten years is less a purchase history than a statement of intent, and a sign that India’s packaging supply chain is scaling to match its consumer market.

This development arrives as the global printing and packaging industry navigates a period of simultaneous consolidation and specialization, where the ability to add a credible new capability — whether a sustainable substrate, a productivity tool or a diversified technology — increasingly separates the shops and suppliers that grow from those that merely hold market share. The companies and associations moving decisively now are positioning themselves to capture demand that will only intensify as regulations tighten and customers professionalize their own supply chains. For smaller players in particular, the lesson is that resilience comes less from scale alone than from the willingness to adopt proven technology and to communicate value clearly to a market that is rapidly professionalizing around them.

Looking ahead, the practical implication for print service providers and converters is that incremental improvement is no longer sufficient; the market rewards those who treat capability, sustainability and workflow as connected investments rather than separate line items. Whether the trigger is a new material, a new press or a new software layer, the winners tend to be the organizations that integrate the change into how they sell, produce and account for work. That integration is precisely what turns a headline announcement into durable competitive advantage, and it is why trade coverage of individual product launches is most useful when read as a signal of where the whole industry is heading next.
