Durst Group Acquires Majority Stake in CoCoCo Platform to Build an Open Data Fabric for Print Production Intelligence

Durst Group has acquired a majority stake in Triple C Labs GmbH, the company behind CoCoCo Platform, in a transaction that reinforces Durst’s Kyveris industrial software and AI stack while preserving CoCoCo’s independence and vendor-neutral commitments. The deal represents a strategic investment in the data infrastructure that underpins connected print production — and it comes with an explicit promise that openness will not be compromised.

Why CoCoCo Matters to Durst’s Strategy

Kyveris is Durst’s industrial software and AI stack for connected print production. It provides the physics intelligence, colour management, and orchestration logic that transforms installed presses into data-driven production environments. But Kyveris operates primarily within the Durst ecosystem — it is powerful, but it is vertically oriented.

CoCoCo Platform provides the horizontal integration layer that completes the picture. Built on JDF and JMF standards, CoCoCo creates a data fabric that connects presses, prepress systems, and shop-floor software across different manufacturers into one coherent, AI-ready production graph. The combination of Kyveris’s vertical intelligence and CoCoCo’s horizontal connectivity closes the gap between what a machine does and what a production floor knows.

The technical architecture matters. CoCoCo’s core is a typed, event-driven data model with standardised entities. Presses, prepress systems, and shop-floor software all agree on what a Job, a Product, or a Resource is — in real time. Everything above that layer, from dashboards to automation to agentic AI, is a downstream consumer of the same live structure. This design decision has a strategic consequence: modern AI systems can reason about a print operation with the same reliability they reason about code or text.

Independence Preserved, Openness Reinforced

The most significant aspect of the transaction is Durst’s commitment to keeping CoCoCo Platform independent and vendor-neutral. CoCoCo will continue to operate as a separate entity under its existing brand, leadership, and customer commitments. It will remain fully open to third-party OEMs, software vendors, and print production customers — including competing manufacturers.

This is not merely a reassurance. It is a structural commitment embedded in the deal’s terms. Durst acknowledges that third parties, including competing OEMs and software partners, will benefit indirectly from the accelerated development that majority ownership makes possible: faster releases, broader integrations, deeper data models, and a stronger open ecosystem.

Christoph Gamper, CEO and Co-Owner of Durst Group, articulated the rationale clearly: “The right answer to complex production landscapes is rarely more machines. It is more clarity about the machines already running. CoCoCo built exactly that: a common data language that presses, prepress systems and shop-floor software can actually share. Dashboards, automation, AI assistants are all downstream questions. Get the data model right, and the rest follows. We are joining forces to accelerate the roadmap. And we are keeping CoCoCo Platform open, because a data fabric that is not open is not a fabric. It is a fence.”

The Data Infrastructure Argument

The acquisition reflects a broader shift in the print technology industry. For decades, equipment manufacturers competed primarily on machine specifications — speed, quality, format, substrate range. The competitive frontier has now moved to software and data infrastructure. The question is no longer just “how fast can this press run?” but “how effectively can this production floor learn, adapt, and optimise itself?”

Durst’s investment in CoCoCo is an answer to that question. By combining Kyveris’s machine-level intelligence with CoCoCo’s floor-level connectivity, Durst is building what it describes as an integrated production intelligence stack — one that can operate across the heterogeneous equipment environments that characterise most real-world print operations.

The timing is significant. Durst recently celebrated its 90th anniversary and has been publicly articulating its vision for autonomous manufacturing through partnerships such as the TUM Venture Labs collaboration. The CoCoCo acquisition fits within this trajectory: it provides the data infrastructure that autonomous systems require, without which even the most sophisticated AI algorithms would lack the context needed to make reliable production decisions.

What This Means for the Industry

For print service providers, the deal signals that production intelligence is becoming a competitive differentiator. Companies that can collect, structure, and act on production data across their entire operation — not just within individual machines — will have advantages in efficiency, quality control, and responsiveness that isolated systems cannot match.

For competing equipment manufacturers, the deal raises questions about how they will provide equivalent connectivity. CoCoCo’s vendor-neutral positioning means that other OEMs can still use the platform, but Durst’s ownership creates an obvious strategic advantage. The question is whether other manufacturers will invest in their own horizontal integration layers, or whether the industry will converge on a common data fabric that benefits everyone.

For software developers and workflow vendors, the accelerated CoCoCo roadmap promises faster integration capabilities and deeper data models, potentially reducing the development effort required to connect their products to production environments.

The Durst-CoCoCo combination represents a clear statement: in the emerging era of AI-driven print production, data infrastructure is the foundation, and openness is the prerequisite. A closed data system serves only its owner. An open data fabric serves the entire industry — and that, according to Durst, is the only model worth building.
