Canon Unveils varioPRESS iV7 B2+ Inkjet Press in the United States at thINK Ahead 2026 Conference

Canon U.S.A. has announced the American debut of its next-generation varioPRESS iV7 B2+ sheetfed inkjet press at the thINK Ahead 2026 conference in Boca Raton, Florida, marking the first installation and live demonstration of the platform in the United States and representing a significant step in Canon’s global rollout of production inkjet technology.

From European Showcase to American Debut

The U.S. unveiling follows a successful European showcase at Canon’s Power to Move event, held June 16-17, 2026 at the Canon Customer Experience Center in Venlo, the Netherlands. That event attracted close to 300 attendees from 27 countries across the EMEA region, with the varioPRESS iV7 receiving enthusiastic reception for its high-volume performance, image quality, and operational efficiency.

The platform was first announced in May 2024, and the American installation represents the next phase of what Canon describes as its continued investment in production inkjet innovation and commitment to helping print service providers worldwide accelerate the transition from offset to digital production. Canon’s positioning in this market has been reinforced by its recognition as a Leader in the IDC MarketScape Worldwide High-Speed Inkjet 2025 Vendor Assessment, which highlighted the company’s strength in innovation, portfolio breadth, and customer-focused strategy.

Offset-Class Speeds in a Digital Architecture

The varioPRESS iV7 delivers what Canon describes as groundbreaking speeds of up to 8,700 B2 sheets per hour — performance that rivals a half-size offset press. This specification is central to Canon’s positioning of the platform as a genuine alternative to offset for high-volume production environments, rather than simply a faster digital press.

Sheet handling flexibility supports sizes from 13 x 19 inches up to an available 24.5 x 29.5 inches custom size option. The standard B2+ sheet size of 23 x 29 inches enables 6-up letter page impositioning, and Canon claims this larger format delivers up to a 100 percent productivity boost over industry-standard B2 (20 x 29 inches) sheets. The imposition advantage is significant: it means printers can produce more pages per sheet, reducing per-page production costs and increasing throughput without requiring additional press runs.

Application Range and Target Markets

The varioPRESS iV7 is designed for commercial printers, photobook production, direct mail providers, and publishing environments — application areas where the combination of high volume, quality consistency, and format flexibility has traditionally favoured offset production. Canon’s strategy is to demonstrate that these requirements can now be met digitally, eliminating the setup costs, waste, and inflexibility associated with offset while maintaining competitive productivity.

Media versatility is a key part of the value proposition. The platform’s inkjet architecture handles a wide range of substrates, and its workflow integration capabilities connect production to Canon’s broader software ecosystem. The combination of speed, quality, and application flexibility addresses the practical concerns that have historically prevented many commercial printers from transitioning high-volume work from offset to digital.

A Platform Built on a Decade of Inkjet Evolution

The varioPRESS iV7 reflects more than a decade of Canon’s development in sheetfed inkjet technology, building on the foundations established by the varioPRINT i300, varioPRINT iX3200, and varioPRINT iX1700 platforms. Each generation has addressed specific market requirements — from entry-level production to higher-volume commercial work — and the iV7 represents the culmination of this evolutionary approach in a platform that targets the B2+ format segment.

This format segment is strategically important. B2+ bridges the gap between smaller-format digital presses that lack the imposition economics for high-volume work, and larger production systems that may exceed the requirements or budgets of mid-market commercial printers. By occupying this middle ground, Canon is positioning the varioPRESS iV7 as a platform that can serve a broad range of production requirements without forcing customers into either under-capable or over-specified solutions.

Executive Perspective

Kiyoshi Oka, executive vice president of Canon U.S.A.’s Marketing Strategy Unit, framed the unveiling as an important milestone in bringing next-generation inkjet technology closer to customers. “As print providers continue to look for ways to drive efficiency, expand application capabilities, and adapt to changing market dynamics, the varioPRESS iV7 is designed to help them move forward with confidence and unlock new opportunities for growth,” he said.

What Attendees Will See

Attendees at thINK Ahead 2026 will see the varioPRESS iV7 operating in a live production environment for the first time in the United States. Demonstrations will focus on the platform’s ability to handle high-volume commercial demands with consistent quality and efficiency, with particular emphasis on the B2+ format’s imposition advantage. Canon will support the unveiling with executive commentary, product imagery, and event coverage capturing customer engagement and live demonstrations.

The varioPRESS iV7 is expected to be generally available in the United States in the first quarter of 2027. This timeline gives Canon the opportunity to build market awareness and customer confidence through the thINK Ahead demonstrations before the platform enters full commercial deployment.
