X-Rite Pantone launches Spectura portable spectrophotometer with cloud colour workflow

X-Rite Pantone has launched Spectura, a portable sphere spectrophotometer platform that combines measurement performance, secure cloud connectivity and an expandable application framework to help manufacturers reduce colour errors, accelerate decisions and maintain consistency from the laboratory to the production floor. The launch lands as colour management moves from a single-instrument discipline into a connected, distributed practice spanning sites, suppliers and materials.

The motivation is practical. Manufacturers increasingly manage colour across distributed sites, supplier networks and diverse materials while facing tighter tolerances and shorter approval cycles. Yet many production measurements still require manual data transfers before anyone can review them, which limits visibility and slows corrective action when a batch drifts. Spectura is built to close that gap. It integrates advanced optics, high-definition camera targeting, temperature-aware measurement, purpose-built accessories, secure cloud connectivity, NetProfiler integration and future application capabilities within a single platform. Strong inter-instrument agreement with established X-Rite handheld and benchtop systems helps keep production results aligned with established colour standards.

Cloud connectivity powered by X-Rite Color iQC brings colour and instrument performance data directly into digital quality workflows, reducing the manual transfers that have long plagued multi-site operations. Quality managers can review production results in real time, identify issues earlier, reduce rework and collaborate across locations and suppliers using a shared source of colour data. For a brand owner juggling dozens of packaging suppliers, that shared view is the difference between catching a drift in one plant and discovering it across a whole network.

Ben Spiegel, director of product management at X-Rite Pantone, framed the shift in stark terms. “Color quality can no longer be managed one instrument, facility, or supplier at a time,” he said. “As manufacturing becomes more distributed, organizations need connected workflows that preserve the integrity of color data across every location where decisions are made. Spectura creates that foundation, helping teams reduce variability, respond faster, and improve consistency throughout the color program.”

Three models address different quality needs. The Spectura S60 is positioned for portable colour comparison, the S62 for everyday quality control, and the S64 for tighter tolerances and agreement with Ci7800 benchtop spectrophotometers. That tiered approach lets a quality team standardise on one platform while matching instrument capability to the job, rather than over- or under-specifying on any given line.

Spiegel also pointed to regulation as a driver. “The future of color quality control is defined by connected systems that make trusted data available wherever decisions are made,” he added. “Spectura helps manufacturers strengthen color quality today while preparing for evolving regulatory requirements, including CRA compliance.” As colour-related reporting requirements tighten, an auditable, cloud-resident record of measurements becomes a compliance asset rather than a filing chore.

The Spectura Series is available now, and X-Rite Pantone will hold a global launch event on October 21, 2026, looking at how Spectura connects colour measurement and quality workflows across the enterprise. For converters and brand owners, the strategic takeaway is that colour quality is no longer a metrology problem solved at a single bench; it is a data problem solved across the whole value chain. Spectura’s bet is that the winners will be the ones who make trusted colour data available wherever the decision is made – and the launch is a clear signal that X-Rite Pantone intends to own that connected layer.

For smaller converters, the tiered three-model lineup matters as much as the cloud story, because it lets a quality team standardise on one platform without over-specifying every line, and that consistency is what turns colour from a recurring fire drill into a managed, measurable process across the whole supply chain.

For smaller converters, the tiered three-model lineup matters as much as the cloud story, because it lets a quality team standardise on one platform without over-specifying every line, and that consistency is what turns colour from a recurring fire drill into a managed, measurable process. The regulatory tailwind is real: as colour-related reporting tightens, an auditable, cloud-resident record of every measurement becomes a compliance asset rather than a filing chore. Spectura’s bet is that the winners in distributed manufacturing will be the ones who make trusted colour data available wherever the decision is made, and the launch is a clear signal that X-Rite Pantone intends to own that connected layer rather than cede it to point solutions.

If colour quality becomes a connected, auditable data stream, the bench spectrophotometer stops being the sole source of truth and becomes one node in a network – a quiet but fundamental change in how manufacturing controls quality.

For brand owners managing dozens of packaging suppliers, a shared, cloud-resident colour record is the practical answer to a problem that has dogged the industry for decades: a shade approved in one plant drifting in another. Spectura does not eliminate the need for skilled colour work, but it makes that work visible and comparable everywhere a decision is made, which is the foundation any serious quality program now requires in a distributed manufacturing world.
