Print.com just handed small print shops a weapon: a free storefront that lives on their own website

Here’s a familiar headache for anyone running a print business: you know your clients want to order more stuff online, but building an actual e-commerce site feels like climbing a mountain. Design, development, payment integrations, maintenance — it’s a second full-time job you never asked for. Print.com just threw that mountain in the bin.

The European print platform has launched Pop-up Store in the UK, and the pitch is refreshingly simple. It’s a white-label marketing tool that lets print professionals, agencies and resellers drop curated product catalogues and product widgets directly onto their existing website. No new site to build. No giant development bill. Just a branded pop-up or embedded selection that starts pulling orders almost immediately.

And here’s the kicker: it’s free for every Print.com customer.

The tool didn’t appear out of nowhere. Print.com says it grew out of extensive customer feedback and co-creation sessions with users across Europe. Originally launched in the Netherlands back in 2024, it’s been live in Belgium for a while too, and over 1,000 of Print.com’s mainland Europe customers are already using it. So by the time it landed in the UK on 15 October, it had been battle-tested by a thousand businesses who’d already figured out clever ways to use it.

Koen Scholte, chief digital officer at Print.com, put it plainly. Pop-up Store started life as “a conversation starter — an easy way for customers to inspire their own clients with print products, without the cost and complexity of a full e-commerce solution.” In other words, it lets a print pro show off products, promote specialist services and open new sales channels straight from the website they already have.

What I like about this is how it fits the way real shops actually work. Print.com customers are using Pop-up Store to support seasonal campaigns, build sector-specific catalogues, onboard new clients and push niche product ranges — all from something they can create and update in minutes. For a small business, that kind of agility is gold. You don’t need to bet the farm on a new platform; you just add a widget and see what happens.

Fiona Robinson, Print.com’s UK country captain, framed it as working smarter, not harder. “While many in the UK know Print.com as an online print platform, technology has always been at the heart of our business,” she said. The launch, she added, is “just the beginning.” For UK print professionals who’ve watched the market consolidate around a handful of giants, a tool that lets the little guy compete on digital shelf space is genuinely welcome news.

And notice the bigger pattern. Last month Print.com launched its own plugin inside ChatGPT — a move the company claimed makes it the first print platform where an AI assistant can suggest products that are ready to order. Pair that with Pop-up Store and you can see the strategy clearly: meet the customer wherever they already are, whether that’s a website, a chat window, or a late-night brainstorm with an AI.

The honest caveat? This only helps you if you’re already in the Print.com ecosystem, and “free” still assumes you’re buying and selling through their network. But for the thousands of resellers and agencies who already are, this removes a real barrier. You no longer need to choose between looking professional online and spending six months and a small fortune building the thing.

If you run a print shop and you’ve been putting off “getting a proper website,” this is the nudge. The barrier just got a lot lower — and your competitors are probably already clicking through it.
