MTC Polska Adds OMET XFlex X6 to Expand Pharmaceutical Blister Foil Capacity

MTC Polska, a leading Polish manufacturer of primary flexible packaging for the pharmaceutical industry, has installed an OMET XFlex X6 flexographic press at its production facility in Pruszków near Warsaw. The investment strengthens the company’s capability for high-quality pharmaceutical blister foil production and increases overall production capacity at a moment when regulatory and quality demands on drug packaging are intensifying across Europe and beyond, and when regional supply chains are being deliberately diversified after years of concentrated risk.

Founded in 1993 in Warsaw and part of the Vienna-based MTC Holding Group, MTC Polska operates a greenfield production facility built in Pruszków in 1999. The company specializes in flexographic and rotogravure printing of aluminum blister foils, sachet laminates, strip foils, coldform materials, suppository foil and flexible laminates for pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food customers across Poland, Europe, Asia and Africa. Its certifications tell the story of its quality posture: ISO 9001, ISO 15378, ISO 22000, HACCP and BRCGS Packaging, all operated under GMP requirements for pharmaceutical primary packaging, the strictest regime in the industry and one that leaves little room for inconsistency between batches or shifts on the shop floor.

The XFlex X6 was selected specifically for blister foil production, where print accuracy, register stability and consistency are not optional but critical. Pharmaceutical packaging operates under the highest production standards because any defect in a blister foil can compromise patient safety, regulatory compliance or brand trust. The press offers fast job changeovers, reduced material waste and automated setup procedures that help maintain quality while improving efficiency, a combination that matters enormously when running short, tightly specified pharmaceutical jobs that leave little room for error and where a misregister can scrap an entire batch and trigger a costly recall investigation that damages reputations.

OMET’s Italian service team carried out installation and commissioning, with comprehensive operator training completed before commercial production began. That step ensured reliable performance from the first production runs, avoiding the ramp-up losses that can accompany new equipment. For MTC Polska, the goal was not merely to add throughput but to add dependable, repeatable throughput that its pharmaceutical customers can specify with confidence, knowing each batch will match the last and that documentation will satisfy the auditors who inspect every aspect of a regulated packaging line with unforgiving checklists.

The investment is intended to support MTC Polska’s continued expansion of its customer base in both domestic and international pharmaceutical packaging markets, while providing the flexibility to respond to new packaging applications as they emerge. Pharmaceutical supply chains have become acutely aware of the need for regional resilience and qualified local suppliers, and Central Europe has benefited as a manufacturing hub for both finished doses and the packaging that protects them. A press like the XFlex X6 positions MTC Polska to capture more of that demand as global brands diversify their sourcing away from single regions and seek redundant, certified capacity that can absorb shocks without interrupting supply to pharmacies.

Blister packaging remains one of the most widely used formats for solid oral dose medications, prized for barrier protection, dose integrity and patient convenience. The foil that seals each cavity must print cleanly with serial numbers, branding and regulatory information, often at high speed and with exacting register. Flexographic printing, when paired with the right press architecture, delivers the consistency and waste reduction that pharmaceutical converters require, which is precisely why MTC Polska chose this route for its expansion rather than relying solely on rotogravure, balancing cost, speed and quality for the high-mix, lower-volume jobs that dominate the segment and define profitability.

Beyond the immediate capacity gain, the installation reflects a broader trend: pharmaceutical packaging suppliers are investing in precision converting equipment to meet serialization, anti-counterfeiting and sustainability requirements simultaneously. As regulators push for data-rich coding and brands seek to reduce material use, the ability to print, inspect and change over quickly becomes a competitive differentiator. MTC Polska’s XFlex X6 is a clear bet that precision flexo will remain central to pharmaceutical foil production for years to come, and that local, certified suppliers will continue to win share as the industry prioritizes both quality and resilience in equal measure, building a stronger, safer drug supply for patients everywhere who depend on it. The European pharmaceutical packaging market has been a particular bright spot for converters, as aging populations and rising demand for chronic-disease medications sustain volumes of solid oral dose products. At the same time, sustainability pressure is pushing foil laminate producers to lightweight materials and reduce aluminium usage where regulations allow, a balancing act that precision flexo is well placed to support. MTC Polska’s investment therefore arrives as both a capacity and a capability statement, signalling its intent to compete for the most demanding regulated jobs rather than commodity volume alone, and to deepen relationships with multinationals that audit their suppliers as rigorously as their products.
