General Formulations (GF), a leading global manufacturer of pressure-sensitive roll and sheeted print media and laminates, has introduced its new GF Semi-Rigid Vinyl films with an Air Egress liner. Engineered for easier handling and faster installation, the integrated air-release channels allow quick, bubble-free application, helping installers achieve a smooth, professional finish while improving overall efficiency.
The GF Semi-Rigid product line now includes four 6.0 mil white vinyl films featuring Air Egress technology. The films deliver strong print quality across today’s digital printing platforms and give customers a choice between permanent or removable clear acrylic adhesives as well as gloss or matte white finishes, covering a wide range of graphic applications: GF 220AE gloss/permanent, GF 221AE gloss/removable, GF 222AE matte/permanent and GF 223AE matte/removable.
Each product is available in 54-inch and 60-inch wide-format roll media and is printable with solvent, latex and UV inks. The same construction is offered for offset printing, and GF NFD 223AE, the matte/removable version, is also available in narrow-format digital sheets in standard sizes of 19 by 13 inches and 29.5 by 20.5 inches, top-coated and printable with Indigo and toner engines.
Designed for short-term and long-term interior and exterior graphics with up to three years of durability, the films suit general signage, decals, point-of-purchase displays, exhibit graphics, glass and architectural applications. The semi-rigid construction provides easier handling than traditional flexible vinyl, letting installers position and apply graphics quickly, even without a laminate, which streamlines the job and reduces material cost.
Matt Edwards, vice president of product management at General Formulations, said the new films combine handling benefits customers already appreciate from the semi-rigid portfolio with the faster, bubble-free installation of air egress technology. “The result is a versatile product that helps installers and delivers professional results, making these applications more profitable,” he noted. Profitability hinges on speed and rework avoidance, both of which air egress directly improves.
For print service providers, the addition addresses a persistent pain point. Bubbles and poor adhesion during application waste media, time and labor, and can ruin an otherwise perfect print. Air-release channels let installers slide and reposition graphics, pushing air out for a clean bond on the first attempt. The semi-rigid base further aids handling on larger formats where flimsy films can stretch or crease.
GF will showcase the new films at Printing United Expo 2026 in Las Vegas, with live application demonstrations in booth C523 where visitors can see the products firsthand. For shops evaluating new media, seeing the install behavior in person is often the deciding factor, and the booth gives GF a platform to prove the bubble-free claim rather than merely state it.
The launch also reflects steady evolution in the wide-format media category. As latex and UV printers proliferate in smaller shops, demand grows for films that perform across multiple ink types and cure methods. By certifying the line for solvent, latex, UV and offset, GF broadens its addressable market and reduces the number of SKUs a distributor needs to stock.
For end users, the practical upside is a cleaner install with less skill dependence. Architectural and retail graphics teams can apply semi-rigid air-egress films with confidence, shortening project timelines and improving on-site outcomes. That reliability strengthens the case for print in competitive signage and décor segments.
General Formulations is positioning the range as both a handling upgrade and a business upgrade, tying easier installation to higher installer profitability. With a clear product matrix and broad printer compatibility, the GF Semi-Rigid Air Egress line looks set to become a staple media choice for shops wanting fewer headaches and faster turns.
