Epson Brings On-Demand Colour and Liner-Free Printing to Queensland Hospitality

Epson will exhibit a range of commercial label and receipt printers for food service, hospitality and retail businesses at Food and Hospitality Queensland 2026, held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from 12 to 13 October. On Stand D36, the company will show devices aimed squarely at operational pain points that every venue knows but few have solved in-house, mislabeled products, slow receipt printing and unreadable takeaway labels. According to Epson, hospitality businesses depend on throughput, compliance and presentation, all of which rely on printing that works on time, every time.

The centrepiece of the stand is the shift from black-and-white thermal labels to full-colour, on-demand printing, represented by the ColorWorks CW-C4010 and CW-C6510. The CW-C4010 is a compact colour label printer designed for mid-volume work without demanding significant bench space. For a cafe, bakery or catering operation, it turns label production into a one-step process, allowing branded labels, use-by and date-coded packaging, allergen information, product identification and retail-ready goods to be printed on demand rather than ordered in bulk from an external supplier.

The CW-C6510 extends that capability to higher-volume and wider-format work. It is intended for operations with larger runs, such as a food manufacturer supplying the hospitality trade, a central production kitchen supporting multiple venues, or a business whose labelling needs have outgrown its current equipment. Epson’s argument is that bulk label runs involve committed stock, minimum order quantities and a lead time that cannot respond to a menu change, whereas on-demand colour printing lets a limited-time offer, a seasonal product or a new compliance requirement go live the same day.

For venues selling packaged goods, a professionally printed colour label can also raise perceived quality in a way a plain thermal sticker cannot, a subtle but meaningful advantage in a sector where presentation drives repeat custom. The ability to match brand colours precisely, without outsourcing, removes a dependency that many small operators never realised was costing them time and margin.

Beyond colour labels, Epson is targeting mobility and waste. The TM-m30III is described as a next-generation mobile point-of-sale receipt printer. Ordering now happens at the table, at a food-truck window, at a pop-up bar and across festival sites, so the printer needs to be where the transaction occurs rather than behind a fixed counter. The TM-m30III supports this with a compact footprint and flexible connectivity, delivering speed and reliable print quality during peak service, where fewer jams and dropouts directly affect queue times and staff stress.

The TM-L100 is a liner-free label printer built to produce adhesive labels for order tracking, bag tags, cup labels and takeaway order identification. Because there is no backing paper to peel, strip or dispose of, liner-free printing reduces consumable waste and speeds up the application of each label in a busy kitchen, a real advantage at venues where order accuracy and speed of service determine repeat business.

At the stand, attendees can print real labels, compare colour and thermal output, assess receipt printer performance, and discuss consumable costs, POS integration, food compliance and production volumes with Epson experts. The company notes that Queensland food and hospitality businesses face rising wages, volatile supply costs and labour shortages, and argues that technology reducing waste, lowering outsourced printing costs, speeding service and enabling in-house branded packaging is becoming an operational necessity rather than a luxury. For an industry built on thin margins and fickle customers, that logic is hard to dispute.

The timing of Epson’s push is no accident. Queensland’s hospitality sector, like the rest of Australia’s, has spent several years accelerating its digital ordering and payment infrastructure, a shift that intensified as venues sought to minimise contact and maximise table turns. That digital front end, however, still collides with a physical back end, the labels, receipts and order identifiers that keep a kitchen and a service floor in sync. Epson’s answer is to bring production of those items in-house and on demand, collapsing the gap between a menu change decided in the morning and the branded collateral required by lunch. The liner-free printing angle also taps a genuine sustainability concern; backing-paper waste from labels is a quiet but substantial contributor to landfill in high-volume venues, and removing it aligns with both corporate environmental targets and the practical desire to cut consumable cost. For a sector where margins are thin and labour scarce, the proposition that a printer can reduce waste, speed service and lift presentation at once is precisely the kind of multi-benefit story that cuts through.

Beyond the individual products, Epson’s presence at the show underscores a strategic repositioning of printer vendors from hardware suppliers to operational partners for small business. Hospitality operators do not buy a printer because they are interested in printing; they buy it because it solves a concrete failure, a mislabeled container, a queue at the counter, a remade takeaway order. Vendors that frame their pitch around those operational outcomes, rather than specifications, are the ones gaining traction with owners who treat technology as a means to smoother service. The Brisbane timing, days before the show opens, also gives Epson a captive regional audience at a moment when venues are finalising summer-season preparations, when menu and labelling changes arrive thick and fast.
