Berg Etiketten becomes first Dutch customer for Konica Minolta AccurioLabel 400

Berg Etiketten, a self-adhesive label specialist based in Breda, the Netherlands, has become the first company in the country to invest in Konica Minolta’s AccurioLabel 400 digital label press. The purchase is the next step in the family business’s growth since its takeover by Wouter Berg, and it expands production capacity for a firm that has spent 25 years making high-quality labels.

Berg Etiketten supplies both blank and printed labels and runs its own print service for full-colour labels, barcodes, numbering and product specifications, with fast delivery including 24-hour turnaround on certain orders – a capability that plays an important role in its offering. For a business built on speed and flexibility, the new press has to earn its place by protecting those strengths while adding volume.

The AccurioLabel 400 reaches print speeds of up to 40 metres per minute and is designed for efficient production of larger volumes. It also features automated colour and registration control, helping maintain consistent quality across the full run. Konica Minolta positions it for label producers wanting to expand digital capacity, with an emphasis on automation and ease of use alongside higher speed – a profile that fits a converter juggling short, urgent jobs and longer batch work.

Wouter Berg, owner of Berg Etiketten, framed the investment as a growth move rather than a replacement. “With the AccurioLabel 400, we are taking a next step in the growth of Berg Etiketten and further expanding our production capacity,” he said. “We can scale up our digital production further while continuing to offer the speed and flexibility our customers are used to from us. The combination of productivity, consistent quality and additional application possibilities fits well with the further development of our company.”

From Konica Minolta’s side, the installation is a milestone in the Dutch market. Erik Klute, product manager for professional printing and IP at Konica Minolta Netherlands and Belgium, said the company was especially pleased that Berg Etiketten is the first in the Netherlands to choose the AccurioLabel 400. “Berg Etiketten has a strong focus on quality, flexibility and short delivery times. It is precisely on those points that the AccurioLabel 400 can make an important contribution,” he said. “We look forward to continuing to build their digital label production together.”

The deal reflects a wider dynamic in label printing. Digital presses keep chipping away at conventional flexo for short and medium runs because they remove plates and cut lead times, and a 40 m/min digital machine with automated colour control is increasingly competitive even on longer batches when changeovers are frequent. For a converter whose pitch is 24-hour turnaround, digital is less a luxury than a requirement.

Berg Etiketten’s story is also a family-business story. A 25-year specialist taken under new ownership and then upgraded with flagship digital kit is a common path in European labelling, where succession and reinvestment decide who grows. Choosing the AccurioLabel 400 signals confidence in continued demand and a willingness to professionalise production rather than coast on reputation.

For Konica Minolta, first-customer wins like this are how the AccurioLabel line builds reference momentum against heavier-established digital label vendors. A happy Berg Etiketten, with its quality-and-speed message, becomes a local proof point for the next Dutch prospect.

The takeaway for the segment: digital label capacity in the Benelux region is still deepening, and converters that lead with service speed are exactly the ones investing. If Berg Etiketten converts the new capacity into faster, more consistent jobs, the AccurioLabel 400 will have done its job.

Berg Etiketten’s upgrade shows that in label printing, speed of service is now a technology decision as much as a staffing one, and digital presses with automated colour control are the tools that let small converters promise next-day delivery. Digital keeps chipping away at conventional flexo for short and medium runs because it removes plates and cuts lead times, and a 40 m/min machine with automated registration is increasingly competitive even on longer batches when changeovers are frequent. For a converter whose pitch is 24-hour turnaround, digital is less a luxury than a requirement, and the AccurioLabel 400’s automation protects the consistency that wins repeat business. The deal also fits a familiar European pattern: a 25-year family specialist taken under new ownership and then upgraded with flagship digital kit to professionalise production rather than coast on reputation. For Konica Minolta, first-customer wins like this build reference momentum against more established digital label vendors, and a satisfied Berg Etiketten with a quality-and-speed message becomes a local proof point for the next Dutch prospect weighing the same investment.

Automated colour and registration control means less skilled labour is needed to hold quality, a decisive advantage for a family firm competing on fast turnaround in a tight labour market.
